AAHSA MANDATE:


The purpose of the Aboriginal Head Start Association of Alberta is to promote, support and enhance urban and northern Aboriginal Head Start programs by providing resources, information and learning opportunities that support the growth and development of children, families and communities.


AAHSA COORIDNATOR - JOB DESCRIPTION:


The Alberta Aboriginal Head Start Association (AAHSA) Coordinator position is essential to the continued quality service delivery for AHSUNC programs regionally.

The AAHSA Coordinator will support the association's leadership to be responsive to their regional leadership role, by providing secretariat functions including and not limited to:

Coordination and scheduling of AAHSA meetings, in-person and/or virtually, facilitation of all aspects related to the regional reach of AHS including research initiatives, regional support for AAHSA members, and communicate with the Public Health Agency Of Canada (PHAC) and other agencies when requested.


The AAHSA Coordinator is a telework position requiring work to be completed in a home office setting and/or designated area and may require travel to AHS communities, attendance at AAHSA community and committee meetings, both online and in person depending on budget and scope of work.


Should there be a scope of work that is outside the coordinator's expertise, skill or knowledge base, the AAHSA may utilize the services of a private consultant or private firm to complete the job requirements.


AAHSA COORDINATOR ADMINISTRATION:


The Alberta Aboriginal Head Start Association is partnering with the Lac La Biche Regional Awasisak & Family Development Circle Association (AFDC) to host the AAHSA Coordinator Contract.

The AFDC is the sponsoring agency for the Lac La Biche Aboriginal Head Start program who currently operates a successful Head Start program in the town of Lac La Biche, AB.

The AAHSA Chair and/or designate will provide the direction and leadership that defines the AAHSA Coordinator deliverables and activities. The AAHSA Chair and/or designate will be the coordinator's first point of contact for AAHSA communication and direction.


The Lac La Biche Regional Awasisak & Family Development Circle Association (AFDC) will be responsible for supporting the financial management, providing written quarterly financial reports/updates to the AAHSA Chair along with any contract expenditures and compensation for the position related to the contract on behalf of the AAHSA.

The Lac La Biche Regional Awasisak & Family Development Circle Association (AFDC) may assist to provide support and resources for the coordinator as needed to effectively help facilitate required functions and activities of the position as determined by AAHSA leadership.


CREDENTIALS REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of Canadian Urban Aboriginal First Nation/Métis Settlements and communities and Inuit organizations.
  • Experience working with Government, federal and provincial, and in the nonprofit sector.
  • Knowledge in the field of Early Childhood Education is a must.
  • Experience and working knowledge of AHS program context, principles and guidelines.
  • Proven strong leadership including solution seeking, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, and flexibility in adapting to change.
  • Strong facilitation skills.
  • Strong communication skills: Excellent writing skills, including experience in proposal and grant writing; excellent oral skills that may include public speaking.
  • Demonstrated experience in relationship building, collaboration and teamwork.
  • Ability to work independentlyand be a selfstarter.
  • Strong organizational skills to effectively manage resources.
  • Fluency in English and knowledge of Aboriginal languages would be an asset.
  • Related Degree/Diplomalevel training and education is encouraged.
  • Must provide current clearances (Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child & Youth Intervention Check).

POSITION LOGISTICS:


The AAHSA Coordinator is classified as a contracted teleworker, term position for April March 2025, with the opportunity to continue the work into 2025 and beyond which may lead to full-time permanent, based on the associatons funding agreement.


  • Hours will be based on required deliverables as defined by the AAHSA but will not exceed 37.5 hours/week unless approved by AAHSA Chair in consultation with AAHSA membership.
  • Necessary travel will be funded through the AAHSA arrangements with the Lac La Biche Regional Awasisak & Family Development Circle Association (AFDC).
