Under the supervision and guidance of the Chief Human Resources Officer the Return to Work Officer is responsible for facilitating the safe and timely return of employees to the workplace following an injury or illness.

This includes reviewing all medical documents, developing and implementing return to work plans, liaising with medical providers, and coordinating accommodations and modifications as necessary.

Responsibilities:_

  • Develop and implement effective return to work plans for employees who have been injured or ill, in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams or medical providers and Principals/Managers.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of return to work plans, including any barriers or challenges encountered, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure timely communication with employees, Principals/Managers, and medical providers throughout the return to work process.
  • Coordinate accommodations and modifications to the workplace or duties, as necessary, to support the safe and successful return of employees.
  • Collaborate with Team Members and Supervisors/Principals to complete ergonomic risk assessments and recommend solutions to identified risks.
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments of individual office workstations to identify potential risks and hazards and recommend solutions.
  • Liaise with Human Resources and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures, including those related to privacy, disability, and worker's compensation.
  • Provide advice and guidance to Principals/Managers and employees on the return to work process and relevant legislation and policies.
  • Maintain accurate and uptodate records and documentation related to the return to work process.
  • Develop and facilitate training for staff and Principals/Managers.
  • Conduct research related to WSD's return to work strategy and framework.
  • Prepare briefs, analyses and presentations as required.
  • Monitor expenditures within the allocated budget to ensure efficient utilization of resources while meeting organizational needs and program objectives.
  • Represent WSD at WCB Appeal Commission Hearings.

Qualifications:_

  • A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Kinesiology, Ergonomics Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role, with a proven track record of success in managing return to work programs.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience conducting workplace ergonomic assessments.
  • An equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience may be considered
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to work as an integral team member and provide leadership to teams and working committees, achieving goals using consultative and collegial processes.
  • Knowledge of applicable Manitoba legislation including Workers Compensation Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Workplace Health and Safety Act, Human Rights Code and Accessibility for Manitobans Act, and any other relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge of policies, and procedures related to worker's compensation, privacy, and disability.
  • Demonstrated experience in the areas of human resources, disability management, occupational health and safety, and rehabilitation.
  • Awareness and understanding of labour relations issues relevant to health and wellness, workplace safety and disability management.
  • Indepth knowledge of Ergonomics and Health and Safety standards/procedures
  • Ability to work as an integral team member and provide leadership to teams and working committees, achieving goals using consultative and collegial processes.
  • Demonstrated experience providing training and development on duty to accommodate, WCB, accessibility, including experience developing an assessment framework for those programs.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills, with the ability to identify and address barriers to successful return to work, with a client

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate and uptodate records.
  • Excellent written, oral, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with computerized systems; MS Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams, and Human Resource Information System (HRIS).
  • Commitment to public education and knowledge of the issues facing today's education systems and an openness to understanding educational culture.
  • A valid class 5 driver's license is required.
