The Junior Tax Technician will support the tax team with various tasks and responsibilities including tax planning engagements, variety of tax compliance assignments and correspondence with the Canada Revenue Agency.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Support tax team member with tax planning engagements and final package preparation, including rollover forms and capital dividends
  • Prepare a variety of tax election forms
  • Prepare journal entries for tax planning engagements
  • Prepare corporate, personal, trust and partnership income tax returns
  • Correspond with the Canada Revenue Agency in respect of preassessment reviews, notice of assessments and postassessment reviews
  • Maintain client files to ensure accurate and timely completion of tax returns, elections and tracking schedules
  • Deliver tax returns and signature pages to clients using portal
  • Update status of jobs
  • Execution of efiles
  • Coordinate group meetings for the tax department
  • Conduct tax research
Academic and Work-Related Qualifications

  • 1 to 2 years of experience in a similar role in public accounting
  • College diploma or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration or comparable educational credentials required
  • Experience in preparing Canadian personal and corporate tax returns
Work Experience and Skills

  • Strong client service and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Self motivated, results driven
  • Willingness to be coached and mentored
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of accounting standards for private enterprises
  • Experience using Caseware/Caseview and TaxPrep, an asset
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Sits at a desk for prolonged periods and works on a computer
  • Works effectively within an openconcept environment with distractions (phones, conversations etc.)
  • Is able to deal with working in a highstress environment with competing priorities, demanding deadlines, and interruptions
