We are looking for a growth-oriented and enthusiastic Junior Service Technician to join our growing Building Services Team.

They will play an important role in providing a best-in-class resident experience by providing general labour support to our Building Services department by assisting the Service Technicians, Project Managers, and any office staff with their duties as required in the unit turnover process.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Junior Service Technician will support our unit turnover and community repurposing projects by performing the following duties:

  • Assisting with the delivery of materials, notices, and equipment to various sites
  • Perform minor repairs and alterations as directed by the Service Technicians or Project Managers(s).
  • Moving appliances to and from vacant units as required
  • Removing garbage from vacant units and patios as required,
  • Performing daily vacant unit checks while work is being performed in the turnover process.
  • Helping other staff to enable the completion of work in a timely and secure manner
  • Assisting in a variety of repair activities, which include but are not limited to: wallboard installation, drywall and plaster patching, painting, plumbing/electrical repairs, and carpentry
  • Initiating work orders on handheld mobile devices and provide written descriptions of work completed
  • Observing and reporting on the state of repair of various elements of Accora Village vacant units and estimate material and labor requirements for proposed work.
  • In addition, they will maintain the lock and key storage system
  • Complying with all Occupational Health and Safety practices and regulations
  • Keeping informed of other relevant regulations as outlined in the Building, Property Standards, and Fire Safety Codes
  • Monitoring their inventory and supplies
  • Communicating with leaders regarding inventory as needed
  • At times, you may be asked to assist in groundskeeping and cleaning duties
  • Other duties appropriate to the worker's level of skill and responsibility as may be assigned by the Project Manager(s).

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Secondary School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Some experience with property maintenance, or equivalent demonstrated work experience is expected (summer student work acceptable)
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements
  • As a condition of employment, must present and maintain a valid Ontario Class G driver's license and a driving record acceptable to our insurer
  • Ability to work evening and weekend is a requirement
  • Regular access to a reliable vehicle
  • Unless an accommodation under Ontario's Humans Rights Code is applicable, it is a requirement of the company that all eligible employees are and will remain fully vaccinated against COVID1
  • Reasonable fluency in written and verbal English. Other language skills would be considered an asset.
  • As a condition of employment, must be willing to obtain a valid Criminal Background Check

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Interior and exterior work in all weather conditions
  • Frequent exposure to driving in all weather conditions
  • Exposure to unsanitary conditions, noise, dust and fumes
  • The job description implies the performance of repetitive tasks
  • Awkward positions (bending, lifting, fitting into awkward spaces, and working on ladders or with one's hands over head) may be required.
  • Occasional overtime may be required to meet deadlines
  • Frequent travel between buildings to visit properties and inspect equipment
  • Competing demands may create stress
  • Frequent lifting and carrying tools or equipment up to 50 pounds may be required
