Job Summary
Directs the planning, delivery and evaluation of First Words.

Facilitates the coordination of these programs with CHEO for Intake, Health Records and Service Agreements as well as local school boards, regional hospitals and other stakeholders.

Job Specific Responsibilities
Program Coordination

  • Directs the planning, implementation, administration and evaluation of the programs.
  • Recommends the hiring, supervises and evaluates staff as appropriate to the programs.
  • In consultation with the Director of Children and Family Service negotiates and monitors agreements with agencies to provide First Words services.
  • Prepares and manages the budget in coordination with the Director of Coorporate of Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health Centre.
  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures for the programs.
  • Develops, coordinates and supervises activities to collect and analyse services data and reporting.
  • Develops and implements mechanisms to ensure quality of care and service effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Ensures maintenance of professional practice standards.
  • Works in partnership with Team Lead and other staff of the programs.
  • Works closely with other programs within Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health Centre and organizations related to the delivery of the program.
  • Liaises with service providers outside the programs and with community groups to ensure the effective delivery of services.
  • Other related duties as requested.
Program Delivery

  • Coordinates and assists in the implementation of education and health promotion activities.
  • Assists in the development, delivery and maintenance of protocols, mechanisms and materials that support the programs activities.
  • Develops and maintains linkages with parent groups and associations with an interest in speech and language.
  • Responds to information requests with Team Lead.
Support of Community Partner Committee Structure

  • Supports the Community Partner Committee by:
  • keeping the stakeholders informed of the First Words program Service Delivery System
- bringing to the Community Partners attention of changes in services;
Common Responsibilities

  • Contributing to the Centre's activities to collect, analyse and report on data and relevant information, and participate in research.
  • Maintaining competence, and where applicable, a professional licence to practice.
  • Supporting the Centre's student and volunteer placement programs.
  • Promoting awareness of and participation in Centre activities.
  • Contributing to the Centre's work by participating in meetings and committees.
  • Working during both regular and extended hours of operation in locations identified by the Centre.
  • Contributing to the Centre's practices of hiring, orienting and training of staff.
  • Contributing to the Centre's efforts to secure and maximize resources for current and new programs, services and activities.
  • Participating in the Centre's efforts to enhance its capacity through staff development.
  • Working in a manner that supports the Centre's Occupational Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree from a recognized university degree in Speech Pathology is an asset, otherwise a Bacheor's degree in health, social services or administration and/or a combination of education and experience.
  • 3 to 5 years significant experience in health promotion and working in community partnerships.
  • Proficiency in planning, program development, delivery and evaluation.
  • Five years experience with progressive responsibility in a health setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Sensitivity and awareness of community preschool and speech and language services.
  • Ability to work with a range of service organizations and community groups.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, sensitivity to people of differing cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Fluency in English essential and French is an asset.
  • Valid drivers' license and access to a vehicle required.
