The following are essential duties and responsibilities for this position:

  • Provide day to day human resources support in a broad range and variety of areas including payroll, onboarding, recruitment, health & safety, benefits, employee changes and data management.
  • Process employee updates related to new hires, transfers, leaves, and departures including updates to payroll system, in a timely and accurate manner, providing analysis and reporting.
  • Drive the payroll process via coordination and submission of all Payroll Change Notice forms (PCN), tracking annual hourly vacation/sick payout, summer bonus and payroll requisitions, within parameters of payroll practices & standards.
  • Drives the recruitment activities for entry level positions (hourly, coop & new graduate) ranging from new hire requests, job postings, resume management via building talent pipeline, screening, testing requirements, interviews.
  • Generate and create reports as requested by the human resources team.
  • Organize and maintain various filing systems, including an electronic files, data tracking spreadsheets, and employee files.
  • Assist in the implementation of human resources projects and initiatives such as generating standard forms and documents, data compilation and training.
  • Assist in the preparation of documents, including but not limited to employment letters, forms, legal documents, and other business correspondence.
  • Provide support to labour relations by acting as primary point of contact for hourly associates for day to day inquires, escalating based on nature of request,
  • Maintain all labour management minutes, coordinate grievance meetings, drive annual uniform initiative.
  • Provide overall administrative support to human resources, as well as to other functions where required.
  • Lead in the organization and implementation of reward/recognition activities and event planning, including acting as the primary point of contact for the social activities and/or committees.
  • Coordinate the new hire announcements, labour relations/plant memos,
  • Organizing social committee initiatives, including monthly birthday/anniversary events, BBQ, Food trucks Holiday Party by booking venues, arranging logistics.
  • Maintain training & development initiatives via Alchemy training platform, preparing reports to drive results & partnering with various supervisors/managers to ensure timely completion.
  • Administration duties related to disability management, WSIB, modified offers & monthly reporting of Health & Safety near miss/incident statistics, verifying with internal H & S reporting tool.
  • Responsible for maintaining the Fire Drill Evacuation documentation, Joint Health & Safety Board with current data, reflective of corporate best practices and drive annual hearing test.
  • Adhere to all health and safety policies/procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) while in the Plant.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • General knowledge of human resources theories, practices, legislation and resources is required, 1 to 2 years of practical human resources experience is an asset.
  • Strong proficiency in use of Microsoft Office and Excel is required.
  • Experience reviewing and validating timecards for payroll processing.
  • Previous experience in handling sensitive personnel information, confidentially and professionally.
  • Experience with HRIS and Applicant Tracking systems (UltiPro) is an asset.
  • Effective verbal and written business communication skills, complemented with strong client service skills.
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment, as well as with crossfunctional teams.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to effectively manage and prioritize a varied workload whilst ensuring that all deadlines are met.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Union environment experience is an asset.

Education and Experience:

  • Postsecondary Diploma in a related discipline(s)
  • CHRP designation an asset
  • Strong administration skills (minimum 2 years) in a fast paced human resources environment
  • Generalist background with broad knowledge of labor relations in a unionized environment and health and safety
  • HRIS experience / UltiPro software knowledge an asset
