Student Camp Leader

Essential responsibilities
- Demonstrate Chatham-Kent's core values and competencies
- Perform 'Acting Team Leader' duties as required
- Be a positive role model for program participants and other summer staff
- Follow policies and procedures in place relevant to the position
- Communicate with parents as required
- May be required to modify activities to ensure age appropriateness
- Will be required to assist in managing participant behaviours
- Assist in the planning and implementation of camp activities suitable for the age, abilities and interests of campers
- Daily activities generally include:
- Active Games
- Arts and Crafts
- Drama Activities
- Fitness Breaks
- Swimming/ Water Play
- Demonstrate energy and enthusiasm for the program activities and take the lead on activities and programs
- Implement the philosophies of HIGH FIVE
- Work both indoors and outdoors, work weekday hours, with occasional weekend hours
Essential Qualifications
- Preference will be given to those enrolled in secondary or postsecondary education in recreation or child/youth education, and experience working with children between the ages of 4 and 1
- Because of the responsibilities of the program for leaders, applicants must be 16 years of age or older to apply
- Preference will be given to those with previous experience as a Camp Leader (or other similar camp environment)
- Because program numbers at each camp may fluctuate from week to week, students may be required to work at various program sites throughout the municipality during the summer
Certifications/memberships/licenses
- Current Certification in Standard First Aid/CPR (WSIB approved)

COVID-19 Vaccination
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent no longer requires a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. Although it is not mandatory to be vaccinated, it is highly encouraged.
Driver's license/vehicle requirements
Because this position would be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is preferred.

- Bending: frequent stooping, twisting, kneeling, crouching, squatting (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (kneeling, crouching, squatting while communicating with children; bending while preparing for activities; bending while cleaning up activities; bending while packing up materials)
- Walking: frequent walking on rough surface; constant walking on level surface (walking throughout duration of program at program facility/park; walking on field trips)
- Reaching: frequent reaching above shoulder, below shoulder, forward, backward, handling (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (reaching for program material for program setup/ take down; lifting participants in cases of emergencies)
- Lifting: frequent lifting at shoulder, carrying, transferring; constant lifting floor to waist, waist to shoulder (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (lifting program material for program setup/ take down; lifting participants in case of emergencies; lifting while cleaning after activities)
- Standing: frequent standing inside, outside (standing while delivering programs; standing while preparing for activities; standing while cleaning)
- Hands: frequent fine finger dexterity (movement) (using hands to deliver programming; using hands for daily administrative tasks (filling in reports, attendance, log books, etc.)
