We are seeking a VDC Electrical Project Lead to join our team in Vaughan ON, where REVIT & AutoCAD understanding is strong, and multiple system knowledge/code understanding/routing optimization is strong.

The VDC Project Lead works as part of the VDC team on the preparation of construction coordination, interference plans, and further develop Engineering Consultant designs into fabricable/installable/coordinated virtual models to represent eventual site installation for all new construction and upgrade/rebuild projects. The VDC Project Lead works closely with the construction team for all the design and development of the entire electrical systems for projects.

As the VDC Electrical Project Lead, you'll support the designing and modelling of various projects like:

  • Fire Alarm, Lighting, Security, Power Distribution Systems
  • ICAT, Communication Systems
  • Conduits, Cable Tray, Hanger Systems
  • Electrical Families Creation Support
  • Sleeving/Embeds/Inserts/Total Station
  • Conduit Runs, Panel and Feeder Schedules
  • Electrical Room/Distribution Systems

You will lead a team of Designers to ensure all work is vetted, optimized to save money, ease installation, follow relevant codes, correct consultant mistakes, and agrees with project strategies.

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The VDC Project Lead in this role is responsible for developing a process that can produce a cost effective optimized coordinated model and distributing that content to the entire project team ahead of schedule. Typical sub deliverables include:

  • Construction Interference Drawings
  • Coordinating with Foreman/Superintendents, Project Managers (PMs) and Construction Managers (CMs), General Contractors, Consultants, and Other Trades
  • Ensuring designs conform to applicable standards
  • Production of detailed fabrication drawings for electrical systems
  • Work closely with the foreman and project managers to produce coordination drawings and VDC models.

The VDC Project Lead is required for large and/or complex projects (P3s, > $50million, Electrical, etc.) and will be expected to field questions, perform QA/QC oversight, manage the VDC budget and VDC Designers for assigned projects. The employee in this role is required to be completely knowledgeable of the coordination (REVIT and Navisworks) model and be able to report on the success and status of the project.

  • Site liaison and lead for all project VDC content.
  • Responsible for managing, updating, and reviewing the status of the project coordination (REVIT and Navisworks) model on a weekly basis.
  • Plays a key role in assisting in the implementation and evolution of the VDC department processes.
  • Assist in dissolving barriers of VDC adoption in a politically effective manner on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensures projects meet all VDC requirements set by our customers (site workers, general contractor, fabrication shop and building owners).
  • Committed delivery dates are met.
  • Ensuring that content from all VDC platforms and collaborators are put into the coordination (Navisworks) project file.
  • Managing and policing the document storage and communications streams (ACC, BIM360, Egnyte, Procore, etc.).
  • Tracking changes to the design intent as the project progresses, ensuring that the modelling groups are aware of these changes and that model updates are performed.
  • Correct records are being kept of approved shop drawings, and that their associated model production is performed as per project requirements with QA/QC measures.
  • Placeholder geometry/libraries are graduating to approved/accurate geometry ASAP.
  • Metadata is added to model families as per project specifications.
  • Relevant dimensional accuracy has been met so that site installers' productivity is maximized.
  • Prefabricated assembly strategies are pursued, with logistical and constructability considerations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-Secondary degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Drafting or relevant technical diploma, journeyman status, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of extensive, practical, and successful experience in the Electrical trades and construction industries.
  • Proficient in Navisworks, Revit with Fabrication Parts, and AutoCAD.
  • Consideration given for other BIM/3D programs.
  • Able to prove ability in resolving / managing multidiscipline coordination.
  • Experience in field installation/trade/code adherence will be highly valued.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting construction drawings and documents.
  • Strong computer skills with hands-on working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and digital scheduling software.
  • Knowledge of construction costs/budgets/schedule and construction process.
  • Applies advanced technical experience/knowledge to interpret documentation, specifications, and design drawings.
  • Strong understanding of submittal process, RFI writing, and tactics focused on implementing design changes.
  • Strong written & communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to effectively work with a team.
  • Willingness to commit to continuous learning.
  • Detail oriented and ability to work within tight timelines, and ensure team stays ahead of critical path with excellent time and project management skills.
  • Resourceful, well organized, and energetic with an ability to effectively set and manage competing priorities.
  • Sense of urgency and drive to succeed, must be comfortable working within a deadline driven, fast paced environment.
