Our Company is currently seeking a skilled Payroll Specialist to join our team and fulfill a pivotal role in maintaining the efficiency and accuracy of the payroll management system. This position requires a strong focus on compliance, reporting, and expertise in Dayforce software. The ideal candidate will have a meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of payroll processes and regulations, and the ability to effectively communicate with internal stakeholders.

Position: Payroll Specialist

Reports To : Accounting Manager

Location : Toronto, ON

Responsibilities: Key responsibilities include of this position but are not limited to the following:

  • Independently process semi-monthly payroll and off-cycle runs for all legal entities across Canada, including new hires, terminations, salary changes, bonus payments, shareholders loans using Dayforce.
  • Compile and process payroll data such as garnishments, vacation time, health benefits, RRSP and other deductions.
  • Audit Dayforce remittances for source deductions and remittances including CPP, EI, personal tax, employer health tax and WCB.
  • Prepare monthly or quarterly remittances to other third parties including BC employer health tax, WSIB for Ontario and workers compensation for other provinces as required.
  • Prepare monthly payroll journal entries for accounting.
  • Download and provide RRSP report on a monthly basis. Enter and send payment request to accounting.
  • Manage group insurance benefits, handling enrollments, terminations, and ensuring accurate coverage for employees, as well as reconciling monthly invoices from benefit providers.
  • Download and print monthly invoices from both benefit providers, enter and send payment request to accounting.
  • Maintain and update taxable benefits.
  • Collect information and process vehicle taxable benefits.
  • Create and maintain separate employee records in compliance with privacy legislation for all new and existing employees.
  • Manage year-end procedures including year-end reconciliations for issuance of T4's and T4 summaries.
  • Complete annual reconciliations for Workers Compensation, Employer Health Tax and the Heath and Education Tax.
  • Prepare scheduled and ad-hoc reports to various levels of management, as required.
  • Ensure the verification and accuracy of all changes made within the payroll system, in accordance with company policies and Corporate Governance.
  • Collaborate with HR to resolve payroll discrepancies and improve processes.
  • Respond to Statistics Canada payroll/job vacancy surveys.
  • Assist with any audits that may occur.

Qualifications, Experience and Education:

  • Post-secondary educationin Accounting, Business, or Finance, or in a relevant discipline.
  • Possess 5-7 years of relevant payroll experience with a focus on compliance and reporting. This experience should encompass direct responsibility for administering an organization's payroll operations.
  • Experience processing payroll with a national organization with locations in multiple provinces is required.
  • Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) certification or working towards
  • Extensive experience with Dayforce software is required
  • Ability to effectively review, evaluate, and summarize data from Dayforce for integration into analyses and reports.
  • Knowledge of and experience with payroll audits, WSIB and related remittances, income tax forms, RRSP programs, and health benefits programs.
