The Lands Guardian Coordinator will work with the tribal council's Guardian network to foster community engagement relevant to Treaties, lands and resources issues and opportunities.

Using existing networks with government and academic institutions, the Guardian network will facilitate opportunities for members to participate in developing both traditional and western knowledge-based approaches to environmental assessments, monitoring, evaluations, and decision making.


Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate intercommunity communications and awareness about Treaties, Lands and Resources
  • Promote and facilitate intergenerational dialogue
  • Coordinate Guardian network in the development of landbased awareness programs
  • Travel to remote communities and community engagements will be required
  • Develop partnerships with external entities, such as universities, colleges, government agencies, or ENGOs to help build Treaties, Lands and Resources issues and opportunities awareness between First Nations and partners.
  • Assist in the delivery and promotion of current Treaties, Lands and Resources programs and research.

Required Credentials & Skills:

  • Diploma, or Degree in a postsecondary environmental, or Indigenous knowledge program, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of current issues and opportunities related to Treaties, lands, and resources
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to speak or understand any of the dialects of our KO communities is considered an asset.
  • Awareness and experience working in social media for community engagement
  • Comfortable and experienced with working in remote communities and field locations
  • Experience working with both western and Indigenous socialecological knowledge systems
  • Awareness of current lands and resources policies affecting community wellbeing
