Requisition Title: Programmer Analyst

Duration: 6 Months (With possibility of extension)

Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid – 3 days onsite per week)

Client Call Notes:

Hybrid – Tues Wed Thursday.

Interview process – Half hour interview. first round will be technical and communication.

Vendor is Cognizant for this project. The role will involve working with the offshore team.

About:

  • Replace an existing employee. Support the insurance applications for mainly North America.
  • The team also supports applications for Canada and Asia
  • They have a system called TAI, it's a legacy system built in mainframe COBOL. This role will support NA mainframe v2.3 and TAI .Net 3.7.
  • They have started the upgrade this mainframe app to .Net. Still in process of getting implemented, target date was last October but got postponed to end of July
  • They are planning to convert the US mainframe by 2026

Skills required:

  • Candidate will have to jump in and try to learn as much as possible in a short time frame because the mainframe is open source. Once it transitions to .Net it will be closed source so no way to look at previous codes to learn
  • System is complicated and involves a lot of business users. Will have to collaborate with infra and risk teams.
  • Should be able to understand mainframe and azure infra.
  • They use python extensively.
  • CAWLA is very important.
  • Open to international exp

Top 3 skills:

  • Extensive exp over 10 years in COBOL mainframe
  • SQL – 5+ years should be able to create scripts and macros, able to use SQL studio
  • Python – use it for interface between mainframe and .Net systems

Top Skills/Candidate Requirements:

  • 10+ years of Mainframe (TSO, Cobol, JCL, CICS) programming and support experiences,
  • 3+ years of experience with Python, VBA, C# programming, MS Access, MS Excel, Strong technical skills for writing macros (Excel, Word, Access) to automate small business processes.
  • 3+ years of experience with automation job scheduling (CAWLA).
  • 5+ years of experience with MS SQL Server platform.
  • 3+ years of experience of writing database stored procedures and creating logical and physical schema.
  • Proficient in writing complex SQL queries.
  • Experience in developing SQL Server Integration Services packages (SSIS).
  • Strong web development skills including Visual Studio 2013, C#. ASPX, HTML5, AJAX, CSS3, JavaScript and JQuery.
  • Excellent understanding of object-oriented programming, software design and programming principles.
  • Well conversant with .Net Application Framework , Common Language Runtime, Managed Codes and Distributed Architectures.
  • Excellent knowledge of data warehousing and multi-dimensional data mart concepts.
  • Experience or knowledge on Reinsurance system application an asset.
  • Experience or knowledge of PowerBI an added advantage.
  • Capacity to handle tight deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Must be able to juggle multiple tasks.
  • Strong team player, who enjoy collaborative work environment.
  • Proactive and takes ownership of the work assigned.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and maintain professionalism.
  • Experience in interacting with business users and management on regular basis.
