What will you be doing as the Accessibility Curator?
Reporting to the Community Engagement Manager, the Accessibility Curator is responsible for developing an accessibility strategy for Pride Toronto with a focus on three main areas:

  • Compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA)
  • Organization wide accessibility implementation (including the Festival)
  • Community partnerships and external communications

Other responsibilities include:

  • Research and suggest access implementations to various departments at Pride Toronto
  • Lead and curate Pride Toronto's accessibility spaces at the festival, including but not limited to arranging wheel trans, mobile assistant rentals, booking ASL etc.
  • Review festival activations and encourage opportunities to increase access needs
  • Review and create current policies and procedures to ensure Pride Toronto is AODA compliant
  • Create a series of accessibility checklist for various departments to ensure all areas of accessibility are being thought of
  • Create a short and long term strategy on how to make accessibility a pillar to our organization internally and externally
  • Conduct training sessions for staff and volunteers on the importance of accessibility and how to work with community members who have various access needs
  • Lead a team of volunteers who will help bring implement your vision into reality
  • Attend all Accessibility advisory committee meetings and work with the advisory to address accessibility concerns at Pride Toronto
  • Create and implement a successful access request form for community members and staff to request access for meetings, events (internal and external), and other needs as identified.
  • From time to time, event support will be required and authorized by the Director of Operations
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Community Engagement Manager

What are we looking for?

  • Well versed on AODA compliance requirements
  • Committed to represent the spectrum of abilities covered by the AODA
  • Detail oriented with 35 years of event planning experience
  • 35 years of project management experience
  • 35 years of demonstrated experience consulting in accessibility compliance
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, highpressure environment
  • Ability to work within a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends

Nice to haves:

  • Customer Service skills
  • A valid G driver's license
  • Familiarity with Pride Toronto
  • Familiarity working with the 2SLGBTQI+ communities
  • Prior administrative experience
  • Experience working closely with other departments to ensure accessibility standards
