PARTNER ASSAULT RESPONSE & BACK ON TRACK PROGRAM COORDINATOR (Temporary Full Time - 35 Hours/Week)

John Howard Society of Waterloo-Wellington (JHSWW) is looking for a new team member to join our Back on Track and Partner Assault Response Program teams.

Applications are currently being accepted for a temporary Partner Assault Response & Back On Track Program Coordinator working 35 hours a week until March 29, 2024.

The position is based in the Kitchener office. The incumbent must be open to working a flexible shift per week including working evenings and Saturdays.

While reporting to the Program Manager, the incumbent needs to work collaboratively with the Senior Coordinators of the Back-on-Track and Partner Assault Response programs.


Responsibilities:

  • Cofacilitate the provincially recognized Partner Assault Response program through group and individual sessions employing counselling models aimed at reducing abusive behaviors in intimate partner relationships while building healthy relationship skills
  • Evaluate and monitor participant behaviours, cognitions, stages of change and motivation in relation to goals and the effects of behaviours on partners, children as well as the participant
  • Maintain case files including case management and/or clinical notes; prepare all required letters and/or reports
  • Follow program standards to maintain safety of group participants, victims and partners
  • Attend team meetings and required training
  • Conduct Back on Track (BOT) inperson assessments; conduct BOT telephone followup appointments
  • Cofacilitate treatment groups and education groups for Back on Track
  • Other duties as assigned
The following are essential skills, abilities and requirements for this position:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a human service field (i.e. social work, psychology, nursing); addictions specific training preferably with three years' experience providing therapeutic and psycho-educational services for adults
  • At least three years' group facilitation experience
  • A thorough knowledge of current domestic assault and addictions treatment modalities, intimate partner abuse, social learning, power and control dynamics and the effects of abuse on men, women and children
  • An understanding of the policies and procedures of local police, Crown Attorney's office, courts, probation and parole as they relate to the court process for domestic violence offences would be an asset
  • Experience working with people involved in domestic assault situations and people suffering from mental health issues and drug or alcohol addictions
  • An ability to effectively model egalitarian thinking, particularly related to gender equality
  • Member in good standing (or eligible for registration) with an appropriate regulatory body (e.g. Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers) preferred
  • Current clearance from a criminal records check. Must be able to meet criminal and other offence screening criteria necessary for the Agency to maintain its contracts.
  • Demonstrated assessment, client engagement, motivational counselling, group facilitation, noncrisis intervention, adult education and treatment skills
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word, EMHWare and/or other client file management software; internet search tools; and use of connectivity and collaboration platforms (e.g. Zoom) for virtual programming and meetings.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A valid driver's license, personal vehicle and insurance are required.

Compensation:
The current starting rate for this position in $26.84 per hour (+4% Vacation Pay in lieu of Benefits).
