Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc. is a comprehensive consulting and engineering company that caters to the infrastructure and engineering sectors. With a collective team of over 3,000 engineers and design professionals, we possess expertise across all major engineering fields to serve various industries such as transportation, power, water/wastewater, mining, building, and oil, gas & chemical markets. Our Power district, within Kiewit, is rapidly expanding and comprises various disciplines including structural, civil, piping, mechanical, process, process safety, electrical, instrument, and control. It represents a versatile division with top-tier technical proficiency focused on the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) delivery model for power facilities. Our array of engineering services encompasses owner's engineering, project development, detailed engineering and design, construction management, and plant services. The engineering teams at Kiewit breathe life into power projects across North America, specializing in gas-fired generation, power delivery, environmental retrofits, renewables and new technology, water/wastewater, and carbon-free initiatives such as Nuclear projects.

Location

This role is situated in Calgary, AB. Occasional travel, including trips to the US, may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs intricate calculations and applies standards accurately without supervision, taking the lead when collaborating with peers.
  • Reviews the work of engineers and designers to ensure proper development of engineering and design documents essential for the project.
  • Exhibits critical analytical skills and proficiency in utilizing decision-making tools, demonstrating high-level data analysis prowess.
  • Regularly evaluates vendor documents to guarantee compliance with specifications and data sheet requirements.
  • Oversees mid to large-sized projects or proposals.
  • Develops and guides others in enhancing designs and reducing costs.
  • Considers multiple solutions and makes informed decisions based on thorough data analysis.
  • Implements techniques and technologies to optimize processes and drive improved business outcomes.
  • Leverages industry and company standards effectively for design and engineering purposes.
  • Serves as a mentor to less experienced engineers.
  • Leads projects in interpreting and applying codes and standards.
  • Directs the team in identifying scope changes during mid to large-scale projects.
  • Implements design modifications as necessary to adhere to budgets and schedules.
  • Recognizes the significance of customer requirements.
  • Efficiently carries out assigned tasks to maximize personal productivity.
  • Leads quality assessments of design and engineering for medium to major projects to ensure accuracy.
  • Prioritizes time to fulfill team commitments and individual work obligations.
  • Prepares engineering deliverables encompassing one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment data sheets, hazardous area classification drawings, electrical power studies (ETAP), and more.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Professional Engineer certification is preferred.
  • At least 15 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Offers guidance, leadership, and training to junior engineers.
  • Leads small teams to accomplish tasks/designs within projects.
  • Acts as the representative for the project team while coordinating work within the discipline department.
  • Adapts to the variable demands of work and delivers consistently.
  • Presents work effectively in well-structured written and verbal formats, ensuring clear communication and understanding.
  • Communicates proficiently with supervisors and department members, whether working remotely or on-site.
  • Collaborates across departments and engages others to solve challenges. Initiates meetings with team members, other disciplines, or internal clients to clarify work requirements.
  • Supports project teams and departments positively and productively, fostering teamwork to achieve common goals.
  • Serves as a technical resource and primary contact for external and internal customers.
  • Possesses knowledge of industry codes, guidelines, and regulatory standards, including NEC, NFPA, and API.
  • Experience with ETAP Electrical Power System Analysis software is desirable.
  • Familiarity with power system studies like load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and relay coordination is advantageous.
  • Well-versed in electrical engineering equipment specifications and design codes and standards.
