Community Facilitator

Function/Purpose:


Aligned with The City's Social Policy Framework principles and Strategic Directions, the Community Facilitator provides inclusive and consultative facilitation leadership and support in roles ranging from advocate, educator, convener, capacity builder to coordinator.


Working primarily from an Asset-Based Community Development perspective, the Community Facilitator is a community change agent who provides advocacy, leadership, mentorship, guidance, stewardship and support to residents, community groups, associations, agencies and networks in addition to community and corporate initiatives.


This position consults on community development, engagement and facilitative processes and programming plus helps build capacity of local agencies, departments, organizations and associations.

Community Facilitators are skill-based employees who add value to situations through carefully planned and executed processes. While technical expertise is flexible and adaptable, the ability to be creative and responsive is highly valued.

Job Requirements:

  • Requires a university degree and courses specific to community development, social issues, education, recreation, facilitation, strategic and program planning, implementation and evaluation. A related Master's Degree would be considered an asset.
  • Requires a minimum of four years of experience particularly in community development within the government, voluntary and/or nonprofit sectors.
  • Ability to coordinate and monitor a number of activities and range of projects that can involve complex situations and often conflicting needs and interests.
  • Ability to understand and interpret applicable legislation and make recommendations to Supervisor as appropriate related to area(s) of focus.

$47.89 to $50.41 per hour.

Hours of Work:75 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday as scheduled. Flexibility in working hours is expected in order to attend after-hours meetings.
