JOB SUMMARY

Ensures Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) systems comply with company policies and procedures. Implements and support OHS programs and work towards continual improvement.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES
  1. Health and Safety
    Ensures all safety policies, procedures and processes are in place and followed. Reports all safety incidents and hazards promptly. Assesses the OHS programs and procedures, makes recommendations for improvement, and implements corrective actions, with a focus on incident prevention. Provides advise/support to plant management and staff in the identification and mitigation of hazards. Conducts regular plant safety inspections and reports any issues/hazards to plant management/supervisors. Updates Health & Safety procedures and policies. Develops Safe work procedures in conjunction with plant management as required. Maintains all compliance documentation and Health & Safety boards. Provides support/advisement to the Joint Health & Safety Committees. Conducts Risk Assessments. Undertakes/advises on Ergonomic assessments of both office and plant tasks. Provides Emergency response support. Performs other related duties as required.
  2. Internal/External Customer Service
    Works closely with all plant personnel to ensure safety standards and protocols are being implemented and audited. Engages and communicates with all key stakeholders on a daily basis. Delivers a high quality, responsive service to ensure health and safety actions are promptly addressed.
  3. Administration
    Produces high standard written communications and reports. Maintains a catalogue of health and safety best practice material and Health and safety documentation, reports, incident/accident logs, etc.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Postsecondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or Industrial Hygiene.

EXPERIENCE

3-5 years of application in an industrial setting. Experience working with/auditing documented management systems (OHSAS 18001, ISO 45000, ISO

Disability case management and/or WSIB claims management experience. Environmental management experience.

SKILLS

Working knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and other related legislation/standards.

Strong report writing and computer skills (proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel & PowerPoint).

Excellent people skills and 'can do' attitude, works well with others.

Excellent communication skills, verbal and written and presentation skills.

Proven ability to consistently meet deadlines.

Problem solving capabilities and ability to generate ideas and solutions.

Highly organized and efficient.

Work flexibly (days, nights and/or weekends).

Conflict resolution.
