Well Planning is one of the multiple steps during a directional drilling project and is one of the first point of contact Cathedral has with a client.

The Well Planner is responsible for ensuring the well planning process is performed and accomplished according with the market and company standards.

This position involves aspects of engineering, IT, sales and supervisory responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working knowledge of well planning; anticollision; Ellipses of uncertainty; etc.
  • Work independently on most types of wells and plans.
  • Compile end of well reports for Client after job has finished.
  • Meet customer expectation in terms of quality, engineering standards, reporting and timing. Strive for Customer satisfaction.
  • Act as a technical resource to customers, sales and operations during the entire drilling project. This will require the involvement in, meetings, and daily operations.
  • Share knowledge with your team and coworkers through formal or informal meetings.
  • Mentor junior Well Planners and assist in their training.
  • Accomplish administration tasks such as: holidays, on call scheduling, employee satisfaction, expenses, etc.
  • Provide daily drilling updates to client, seven days/week
  • On Call duties for afterhours work. 24/7/365 availability required. On rotation basis.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Applied Science, Technical Diploma or equivalent.
  • Broad range of Engineering type experience, with at least two years directly related oilfield experience.
  • Moderate experience level in the drilling industry, with a general knowledge of competitive products & services.
  • Well Planning Experience
  • Experience using Landmark-Compass, Accumap, GeoScout, GeoWiz
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Knowledge of basic drilling processes and procedures
  • Good understanding of Cathedral equipment and software, Well planning BHA components (Drill Pipe, Bit, Heavy weight, Drill Collars, shock absorbers, Jars, XOvers, stabilizers, roller reamers, whipstock, etc.), drilling fluids (mud), hydraulics, torque and drag, BHA analysis, doglegs, coordinate systems, geometry and government regulations.
