JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties:

  • Our Safety Framework is the foundation for safety at BC Hydro. It guides the development of our
- safety processes and programs and the safe execution of our work in a consistent, disciplined and
- structured way.

  • As a member of the Safety Framework & Reporting team and key technical leadership role in
  • Safety, the P4 Safety Regulations & Compliance Specialist will be focused on advancing and
- continually improving the design, integration and implementation of BC Hydro's Safety Framework
- (safety management system), Safety Governance Structure, and safety compliance planning
- processes and systems across the enterprise.

  • Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
  • Providing safety management systems technical leadership, specialist knowledge and strategic
advice to, and consulting with, senior leaders, functional managers and risk managers across BC

  • Hydro for safety risk management systems, policies and compliance with associated regulations
- and standards at the organizational level.
  • Proactively engaging with internal stakeholders and external organizations such as regulators,
industry peers and technical communities to learn and share best practices, represent BC Hydro's
- interests, and assess the implications of changes to safety management legislation, regulation
- and standards.
  • Acting as project manager for high profile/impact/complexity Safety Framework improvement
projects with cross-functional, cross-organizational scope.- Establishing and maintaining the safety management system interface with BC Hydro's other

relevant risk management functions such as Enterprise Compliance and Enterprise Risk.- Leading continual improvement and implementation of the Safety Policy & Governance

Structure, which includes providing technical expertise and engaging senior leaders on BC

  • Hydro's safety policy, safety management system, and governance content, and ensuring
- alignment and compliance to applicable regulations and standards.

  • Leading development, implementation, sustainment and assurance of a process and system for
planning, integrating, and implementing safety compliance across the enterprise, at the system,
functional, and local levels.

  • Providing oversight and guidance, in collaboration with responsible departments in Technology,
in the development and delivery of IT solutions for safety and compliance management.

  • Supporting internal safety audits of the Safety Framework.
  • Leading or contributing to enterpriselevel safety reports including submissions to senior leaders,
Board, regulators, and Government.

  • Performing duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the
job.

Qualifications:

***Must have:
  • University degree or experience in a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of education
and experience.- Minimum 10 years of progressive related experience in complex organizations, with emphasis on

project or initiative leadership, relationship management and technical leadership. Preference will Experience with change management and a good understanding of how to determine and

influence customer, internal and external stakeholder expectations.- Strong knowledge of and experience working with risk management systems and standards,

preferably safety management systems and ISO/CSA Z Strong knowledge of and experience with organization-level policy and governance.

  • Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC and other safety regulations.
  • Excellent relationship management, collaboration and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability
to negotiate and mediate discussions to find value-add solutions.- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate with target

audiences at all levels within the organization; including strong presentation skills to convey
- complex technical issues to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills, with demonstrated ability to distill complex issues to highlight issues and
