Position Overview


The
Department of Contracts and Immigration in the
Human Resources is currently seeking a Full-time Temporary Limited Term
Position Title for approximately 16 months.


The primary purpose of this position is to provide expert counsel to the University community on the interpretation of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and its Regulations pertaining to the recruitment and retention of foreign workers.

This involves relaying accurate information to Deans, Department Heads, Hiring Managers, and using innovative solutions to solve complex immigration problems in order to facilitate the immigration processes of foreign workers.

Working closely with the Manager, Contracts and Immigration Services, this position ensures the development and implementation of institutional compliance policies.


Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Develops framework for the maintenance of positive and effective problem-solving relationships with senior administrators and hiring managers
  • Represents the team to internal and external stakeholders when resolving complex immigration issues. This includes balancing service delivery capabilities with client expectations
  • Provides consistent and accurate interpretation of the Immigration law and regulations pertaining to the recruitment and retention of nonCanadian employees
  • Provides credible, expert counsel and guidance to senior administrators and hiring managers for
hiring non-Canadian employees in all staff groups

  • Consults and advises nonCanadian employees on matters related to immigration processes in order to facilitate their smooth transition to Canada
  • Consults and advises senior administrators, hiring managers and academic staff members, to enable the admission to Canada of international visitors

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • University degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field
  • 5 to 10 years of immigration consulting experience in an HR environment, some of which would
preferably be within an academic institution

  • Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC); member in good standing of the Immigration
Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC)

  • In depth knowledge of the immigration law and regulations
  • Excellent analytical skills, and ability to solve complex immigration problems by exercising sound
judgment and accurate analysis of multiple sources of information

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including displaying tact and diplomacy in interactions with various
internal and external stakeholders

  • Ability to manage several complex files simultaneously while working under pressure to meet
deadlines

  • A positive attitude and a demonstrated ability to be a collaborative team member with a service
delivery focus

  • Experience with Human Resources Information Systems (i.e., PeopleSoft) an asset
