$17.50/hour - $19.23/hour + 4% vacation pay

Status:
Full-time (35 hours per week), 12-month contract with the possibility of renewal for an additional 2-year contract.

Challenging the Roots of 2SLGBTQQIA+ Family Rejection & Violence via Early Parent Intervention on Femmephobia


Femmephobia is the societal devaluation and regulation of femininity and undergirds many forms of prejudice that target members of 2SLGBTQQIA+ communities.

Our goal is to promote healthy environments for 2SLGBTQQIA+ children and youth by reducing femmephobia within family systems and society.

We will achieve this by creating the We Are Family Femmephobia 101 Program for parents of young children through a community-driven partnership (e.g., Peterborough PFLAG, Peterborough Child & Family Centres, PARN Peterborough, LGBTQ Psychology Canada, Proud Pairs, the Trent University Centre for Teaching and Learning, and the Canadian Psychological Association).

Our program takes a proactive, strengths-based approach by focusing on parents and caregivers of young children before harm or rejection based on a child/youth's 2SLGBTQQIA+ identity has occurred.


The program aims to reduce the regulation and devaluation of feminine gender expressions and the associated prejudices and harms created by femmephobia within families and communities.


Using intervention research methods, we will evaluate the program's efficacy in reducing femmephobic attitudes among participants (parents, caregivers, healthcare professionals, educators) and the contexts and groups for whom the program is most effective.

Program evaluation will predominantly take place at sites in the Peterborough, Oshawa, and Belleville regions, including the many rural areas within this triangular region of Ontario.

We will evaluate both in-person and online offerings of our program.

The final program will be available as a curriculum that can be attached to existing parent support/intervention programs (via professional development for professionals across sectors) as well as an online workbook and module for parents/caregivers not likely to attend in-person interventions.


Key Activities & Responsibilities of the Project Coordinator

  • Manage all communication with participants, collaborators, and research assistants

Education Required:

  • Honours University Degree in a related discipline (e.g., social or health science; psychology, sociology, family science, health science).
  • Graduate training preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred, or equivalent experience managing and assisting with large research/training/intervention projects.

Experience/Qualifications Required:

  • Experience supervising research assistants
  • Social Media content creation and management
  • Ability to quickly learn new computer programs and software; experience with Slack, Zoom, Otter, Notion, Zotero, Canva, and Google Workspace preferred.
  • Solid understanding and experience with project budgets and financial matters pertaining to project planning and implementation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills are required; must be able to communicate clearly with a wide range of people with varying degrees of technical and theoretical knowledge relevant to the project, including research team members, research participants, and community partners.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to successfully engage in multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently, set and schedule priorities, and anticipate and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to provide training and oversight to student researchers, workshop facilitators, student volunteers, and research practicum students.

Experience/Qualifications Preferred:

  • Graduate Degree in social science
  • Expertise in using Notion to design and manage databasedriven project management
  • 3+ years working in a research environment
  • Survey software programming skills (e.g., Alchemer (i.e., SurveyGizmo), Qualtrics)
  • Quantitative data analysis skills, including data cleaning.
  • Qualitative data analysis skills.
  • Research publication and presentation experience
  • Research grant and budgetary experience
  • Background and/or experience with parenting interventions or education/training
  • Background and/or experience with intervention research design and implementation
