Course Description
This course serves as a broad introduction to the interdisciplinary fields of Latin American Studies and Latinx Studies.

We investigate the questions "What is Latin America" and "What is Latin American Studies" through a number of lenses, including the languages, literatures, cultures, societies, geographies, archaeologies, environmental issues, health care, innovations, histories, identities, migrations and diasporas of Latin America and its peoples.

We use these interdisciplinary approaches to examine the intersection between race, ethnicity, identity, and migration. The course will expose students to active Latin American Studies research by McMaster scholars and Latinx/Latin American scholars.

This course will be structured as a co-teaching model. This posting is for 1 sessional teaching 1.5 units.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD is required.
  • The successful applicant will have previous experience teaching courses of this nature, or similar courses, at the university level and/or appropriate academic qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in highly interactive teaching methods and providing meaningful feedback on student reflections is preferred.
  • An academic background in Latin American Studies, Latinx Studies, Black Latin American Studies, Ethnic/Racial Studies or related discipline is preferred. In addition, knowledge and experience that discusses Latin American and Latinx Studies within the Canadian context will be considered an asset.
  • Supplemented Fees
a) The employee may be eligible to receive supplemented fees in accordance with Schedule C of the Collective Agreement.

The actual rate of pay when in excess of the base rate of pay is deemed to include any supplemented fees owing, to the extent of the excess amount.

If the actual rate of pay is less than the sum of the base rate of pay and the supplemented fees owing, then the employee shall receive the difference.
