Job Description:

As the Pharmacist, you will work as a team member with Senior Medical Advisors, Program Manager for Prescribing & Analytics, other CPSA departments and health-related organizations to support competent prescribing by registrants. You will lend expertise and support for the assessment, management, and follow-up of physicians identified as in need of performance enhancement related to their prescribing. You will contribute to the development of initiatives to support optimal prescribing and lend support to TPP Alberta operations leading the monitoring program for physicians with prescribing restrictions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prescribing and Analytics:
  • Gather and analyze information regarding a physician's prescribing of specific medications and determine if CPSA follow-up is required.
  • Analyze information from electronic databases and other sources to assess prescribing trends or issues in Alberta.
  • Prepare summaries and recommendations on findings.
  • Review physician responses to CPSA queries about prescribing of specific medications and address as required.
  • Respond to telephone calls and correspondence regarding medication prescribing questions received from physicians, pharmacists, other health professionals or Albertans.
  • Intervene as needed with physicians referred from Professional Conduct and other competence programs.
  • Participate in CPSA projects related to prescribing.
  • Liaise with the Chief Innovation Officer and Continuing Competence programs as required.
  • Provide support to the TPP Alberta program.
  • Practice Condition Monitoring:
  • Monitor physicians with practice conditions using available data from Alberta Health and other pertinent data sources.
  • Other responsibilities:
  • Liaise with other provincial and national Colleges regarding physician assessment, performance standards, prescribing practices, and competency enhancement strategies to assist with the evolution to federal standards and ensure best practice in the delivery of the CPSA's competence programs.
  • Provide education, support and counsel for physicians performing competence assessments on behalf of CPSA.
  • Engage external partners with the requisite expertise to develop local competency enhancement programs for physician referral to improve performance.
  • Participate in various research studies within the various competence programs at CPSA to create/confirm evidence of best practice and positive physician impact towards prescribing practice improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
  • Bachelor of Science, Pharmacy and in good standing with the Alberta College of Pharmacists.
Experience:
  • 5 to 8 years, with a minimum of 5 years clinical experience.
  • Broad healthcare systems and pharmaceutical knowledge.
Skills:
  • Requires superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interest in quality improvement, quality assurance and educational programs.
  • Strong interest in the development and delivery of remedial programs designed to improve physician performance.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Effectively liaise with external partner, including other prescription monitoring programs to support evidence-based prescribing that contribute CPSA initiatives.
  • Preferred experience with policy and/or program development.
SALARY
The annual salary for this position is $112,046 and includes a comprehensive benefit package and pension plan.

During the 90-day probationary period, the successful candidate will be required to work from CPSA's downtown Edmonton Office. At the conclusion of a successful probationary period, a hybrid work arrangement may be considered.
