The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking an intermediate highway designer to join our Ontario Highway Design Team with their base office in one of three locations (Ottawa, Thornhill, or Mississauga). The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to the delivery of multidiscipline highway design projects (ranging from low traffic volume two lane secondary highways to high traffic volume multi-lane freeways).

What you can expect to do here:

• Ensuring the technical delivery of highway and drainage designs, using design software such as but not limited to; OpenRoads, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, Microsoft Project, AutoTurn, Excel etc.

• Attend project site visits to see and document existing conditions

• Prepare technical analysis and design, including alignments, geometrics, cost estimating, quantity calculations, technical memos, reports etc.

• Produce designs based on planning strategies and pre-engineering studies

• Coordinate design inputs from other disciplines

• Develop level of effort estimates for design activities

• Provide inputs to design schedules and construction working day estimates

• Provide input to proposals

• Provide input to innovation and future ready discussions

• Prepare contract specifications and documentation

• Attend Technical meetings and prepare presentation materials and meeting minutes

• Review of design and drawings prepared by team

• Quality checks of drawings/designs prepared by you and other team members

• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff

• Other duties as assigned

What you'll bring to WSP:

University degree or college diploma in Civil Engineering, some work experience in highway/roadway design is an asset

• P.Eng or Certified Engineering Technician/Technologist is an asset

• 5 + of related experience, preferably on MTO projects

• Design Build/P3 experience is an asset

• Knowledge and application of Ontario Environmental standards and guidelines

• Familiarity with all applicable design manuals

• BIM experience is an asset

• Effective Communication and interpersonal skills

• A team player with a willingness to collaborate and help others

• Can work on multiple projects

• Valid G Driver's license is an asset
