Main Purpose and Function This is supervisory and recreation programming work in assisting in the development, coordination andimplementation of a community recreation program related to seniors, adults, and special events.

An employee of this class assumes responsibility for directing segments of an approved community recreation program, provides guidance and recommendations to community program committees, recruits and instructs part-time staff, schedules, evaluates and reports on programs, performs moderately complex administrative duties and acts for a superior on an assigned shift.

A Recreation Programmer II exercises independent judgement on matterspertaining to the development, coordination and actual implementation of approved programs but difficult or unusual problems are referred to a superior.

Identifies and reports on a segment of the overall community centre recreation program and assumes responsibility for coordinating and directing same segments.

Makes recommendations on the development, implementation and discontinuation of recreation programs and events.

Provides guidance and information to community groups and committees related to the work performed; establishes and maintains liaison with agenciesand community groups.

Recruits, instructs and directs group leaders, part-time staff and volunteers. Provides orientation andsupervises the work of other full-time and part-time staff involved in approved recreation programs.

In consultation with peers, arranges for and schedules space within the assigned facilities or area; participates in the review of centre policies and procedures.

Maintains a variety of operating, and administrative records, provides cost and revenue estimates for a segment of the community centre recreation programs and assists in overseeing collection and accounting for admissions and fees.

Enforces rules and regulations and deals consistently and tactfully with groups or individuals who fail to observe these and acts in the absence of a superior, on an assigned shift.

University graduation in Recreation or a related discipline and preferably a minimum of one year's part-time experience related to the work OR completion of an approved diploma course in recreation and preferably a minimum of two years' full-time experience related to the work
Driver's License is required
Considerable knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of a planned community recreation program.
Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment and practices involved in conducting community recreation programs.
Working knowledge of the policies of the Board of Parks and Recreation as applied to community recreation.
The ability to provide guidance to community recreation program committees and to promote interest andparticipation in program activities.

The ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public and maintain control and exercise discipline with tactand consistency.

The ability to maintain statistical, financial and clerical records and write reports.
Skill in the use of recreational equipment and the performance of various recreational activities.
Driver's License and

Record Checks:
A current and valid Class BC Driver's License and a Satisfactory driving record is required.

The license must not include any restrictions that would affect the ability to legally and safely carry out jobresponsibilities.

Local area travel and transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Board of Parks and Recreation.

The City's COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination against COVID-19 is not required at this time.

However, should circumstances change and the City deem it necessary to re-introduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
