We have an open position for a hard-working, independent individual to join our Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) Applications Team which is an integral part of our growing business.

The successful candidate will use their knowledge and experience to help support existing data acquisition systems, as well as supporting new project completion, and must be able to multitask and problem solve proficiently while fostering relationships and ensuring client needs and requirements are met on time and in a professional manner.


RESPONSIBILITIES

The key responsibilities of this position include:

  • System Integration/Automation and Computer Hardware/Software Development and Testing
  • Program programmable logic controllers (PLC's) as well as custom Data Acquisition Systems (DAS) using numeric variable logic and expression logic as well as ladder logic, function block and structured text for integration with custom gas analyzer packages.
  • Perform data input and analysis, data acquisition and control system development and debugging.
  • Programming of HMI software for integration with system controllers.
  • Quality control testing on client configurations, hardware, network configurations and overall integration with gas analyzer packages.
  • Perform custom computer setups (e.g.,Windows 10, Windows 11, Server 2019, Server 2022).
  • Translate data into custom (delimited) formats.
  • Offer database (Microsoft SQL) service and support.
  • Provide progress and schedule updates to project managers.
  • DAS Service and Customer Support
  • Consult with clients regarding design requirements and complete technical documentation (control narratives, test procedures, user manuals, installation/commissioning manuals etc.)
  • Troubleshoot automation issues and perform onsite repairs where required.
  • Assess the usefulness of current client systems and applications, provide solutions for upgrading or migration of legacy equipment.
  • Recommend improvements and valueadded solutions to better meet client needs.
  • Provide phone support to customers for CEMS/Ambient analyzer applications.
  • Perform remote and onsite services for CEMS/Ambient analyzer applications. Commission network communications (Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU)
  • Train users to work with systems and programs. Must be able to demonstrate confidence and ability for onsite or remote training.
  • Prepare costbenefit and returnoninvestment analyses to aid in decisions on system implementation.
  • Administration
  • Develop, document and revise system design procedures, custom installation procedures, test procedures, and quality standards.
  • Provide system data reports to internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Read manuals, periodicals, and technical reports to learn how to develop programs that meet user requirements.
  • Work with the department manager and project managers to allocate resources as necessary.
  • Complete required administrative documentation including (but not limited to) timesheets, expense reports, vehicle inspections, delivery notes (job sheets), etc.
  • Other Duties
  • Assist with new CEMS/Ambient analyzer installations etc.
  • Perform or assist with new DAS/controller installation and commissioning
  • Provide support to Sales as needed on pursuits and proposals
  • Such other duties and responsibilities as reasonably assigned from time to time by the Employer.
  • Participation in Quality Management Program.
  • Participation in Safety Program and Initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in electrical engineering, instrumentation, or equivalent experience with a minimum of 2 years in a similar role.
  • Experience with network hardware and setting up network communication is considered an asset.
  • Experience with industrial communication standards such as Modbus and OPC
  • Experience with IEC 61131 programming languages, HMI and SCADA system development
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with the MS Suite and enterprise management software.
  • Previous experience with WHMIS, H2S Alive, First Aid and site access, facility safety programs, etc.
  • MS SQL Server Database programming, SQL queries and SQL Server Management Studio
  • Ability to multitask and selfmanage with a strong attention to detail.
  • Positive, upbeat and able to provide effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with ability to meet various deadlines working with highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability and willingness to work independently as well as flexibly and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • In possession of a valid Alberta Class 5 vehicle operator's license and clean driving record.
  • Candidate must be able to sit and work at a computer for periods of time mixed with some lifting for shipping and receiving purposes (items up to 30kg) and some minor office maintenance.
  • Work is set primarily in an office setting with some exposure to the Instrument Shop, R&D Lab and Back Bay areas as well as field work at customer industrial facilities.
