We are seeking a passionate Intern, Learning Academy who is committed to fostering more inclusive, equitable, and accessible communities across Canada. Our goal is to create environments where individuals with low vision have boundless opportunities and encounter a life free from obstacles and prejudice.

Your Role at CNIB

  • Support Learning Academy staff in planning, executing, and assessing Primary Explorers, Young Achievers, and SCORE Scholars programs.
  • Organize activities and arrange guest speakers to foster mental well-being, social interaction skills, efficient communication, and other essential areas.
  • Assist in planning and conducting day programs for children and youth, including some virtual evening programs.
  • Contribute to the development of safe spaces that promote diversity and inclusion among participants.
  • Help with the application and registration procedures for summer programs.
  • Handle various administrative tasks such as certificate production, expense report preparation, budget monitoring, time and attendance recording, and file organization.
  • Communicate with families, participants, and stakeholders regarding summer programs.
  • Assist in recruiting and training volunteers.

Requirements

Who You Are:

Education and Certifications

  • Hold a degree or diploma in a related field or possess equivalent professional experience.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Demonstrate outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Zoom, and Outlook.
  • Exhibit strong attention to detail.
  • Showcase excellent organization and time management abilities.
  • Possess effective interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
  • Display adept problem-solving capabilities.
  • Be mature, responsible, and able to work independently and cooperatively.
  • Show sensitivity and maturity in addressing the needs of individuals with sight loss.
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit community resources and technical aids for individuals with vision loss is advantageous.
  • Capability to travel independently within the region via public transit or car.
  • Professional or personal experience related to blindness and sight loss is beneficial.
  • Professional or personal experience working with assistive technology and accessible environments is advantageous.

Eligibility

To comply with funding requirements, the chosen candidate must meet the following criteria:

  • Age between 15 and 30 at the beginning of employment.
  • Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or refugee status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act throughout employment.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada as per provincial/territorial regulations, with a valid Social Insurance Number at employment commencement.
  • Enrolled as a full-time student in the prior academic year and intending to return full-time in the following academic year.
  • Preferably a post-secondary student pursuing fields such as social services, health studies, child and youth studies, disability studies, administration, communications, technology, or customer service.

Work Environment

  • Reside in a designated venue during the SCORE Scholars program from July 13 to July 27, 2024 in Toronto.
  • Engage in on-site or remote work as necessary on other dates.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours.
  • Ocasional travels within the region.
