Windsor Essex Community Housing Corporation (CHC) provides well-maintained, safe, and affordable community housing in a respectful and fair manner.
We are leaders in the housing sector and contribute to the development and support of strong communities in the City of Windsor and County of Essex._*Working Under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Development and Engagement, the Community Relations Worker assists a diverse tenant population and responds to a variety of tenant or neighbourhood problems or needs, including advocating on the tenant's behalf while representing CHC's policies and interests.
Primarily, the focus is on assisting the household with housing related issues and may include working with other CHC staff members and other community resources to facilitate solutions or options for residents.
Community Relations Worker's also assist in the development of programs and community solutions by working with a large network of community service providers and partners to ensure that the physical and social needs of our residents are met.
The CRW must maintain a professional approach in all interactions, respecting the rights of the individuals and balancing the best interest of the community.
*_Primary Responsibilities:
_*- Assisting residents to resolve issues and requests related to their tenancies, including but not limited to intervention in tenant to tenant disputes, intervention when a tenancy is at risk; completing transfer requests per CHC policy guidelines; assisting resident in submitting written requests/concerns if requested.
- Representing CHC polices and interests while assisting or advocating on the tenant's behalf.
- Intervention and mediation in difficult tenancies by helping the resident understand their tenancy obligation and the consequences that may result from breaches; meeting with the resident to discussed barriers to a successful tenancy and connecting the resident with outside resources that may provide ongoing support as needed.
- Establish relationships within the assigned CHC communities to build rapport and partnerships; identify potential issues arising within a community and work with stakeholders on resolutions.
- Participate or facilitate the development of programs and partnerships that promote a healthy environment within CHC communities including programs for mentoring students and youth.
- Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Development and Engagement, oversee the delivery of the summer recreation program as assigned.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and partners.
- Provide support to the tenant groups and facilitate community development initiatives within CHC's housing communities.
- Provides advocacy, referrals and crisis intervention resources to tenants.
- Maintains and communicates knowledge of current events, trends and legislation that affect tenants.
- Participate in various committees ranging from community development initiatives to tenantbased committees.
- Assisting with written and verbal tenant communications.
- Liaising with community agencies as needed.
- Participate in or lead any special assignment or study related to social aspect of the Housing Corporation.
- Other duties as assigned from time to time.
Requirements:
_*- Post-Secondary Honours degree in a relevant field i.e. Bachelor of Social Work.
- Broad and varied experience in a social service field; preferably experience that relates to social housing tenants or community capacity building.
- Proven experience in crisis intervention, problem solving, mediation and conflict resolutions.
- Experience working with marginalized populations with diverse issues with knowledge of local community supports for referrals and liaison.

- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.

- Strong ethics and a commitment to privacy.
- Knowledge of community issues, trends, and resources.

- Strong interpersonal, group facilitation and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate tactfully and effective, both orally and in writing to a variety of audiences.
