Summary:


Reporting to the Equipment Manager, the Shop foreman supervises a team of service technicians and work with the stockroom personal to ensure quality work performed in a timely and costly manner, enforces the company's direction, policies, procedures and safety standards, while meeting customer's deadlines.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for understanding, supporting, promoting and leading all aspects of the company safety program, initiatives, regulations, laws and codes for his/her area of responsibility.
  • Conduct safety meetings and employee orientations as per safety program requirements.
  • Complete, review and update hazard assessments as required by legislation.
  • Ensure proper PPE is available and is worn at ALL times by crew members or subcontractors onsite.
  • Monitor public access and mitigate/eliminate all safety concerns.
  • Supervise and direct employees in performing operations ensuring company guidelines and policies are followed.
  • Oversee that work is done according to industry, legislative, company, and OH&S standards.
  • Investigate, where required, injuries, accidents and near misses, document and report as required.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment to 6S Standards.
  • Monitor team's daily activity and provide guidance toward efficiency.
  • Lead the daily activities of shop employees; providing coaching and training as required.
  • Review employee's performance annually and provides feedback for development.
  • Assign and prioritize work to the appropriate shop technician.
  • Liaise with Parts Personnel to ensure good delivery of services/ parts for equipment repairs.
  • Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity in the shop.
  • Evaluate request for repairs, replacement or modification of equipment.
  • Open, review and complete work orders, and ensure all mechanics are completing work to Canadian Road Builders Inc., standards.
  • Supervise the repair of equipment ensuring timeliness in meeting operational needs.
  • Assist with inventory control of all repair parts and tools. Review repair orders for accurate listing and extension of repair parts, maintaining proper accountability of chargeable repair parts.
  • Maintain fleet files.
  • Ensure all work orders are completed and billed accurately.
  • Assist in defining department personnel requirements.
  • Direct reporting in the form of shop inspections and documentation requirements as per compulsory trade legislation in support of Apprenticeship Programs.
  • Provide hands on assistance and oversee specialty work.
  • Report activities of the Shop to the Equipment Manager daily.
  • Assist with all Company Equipment and related Budget Processes.
  • Maintain positive company image.
  • Other duties as required.

Profile:

Knowledge/Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of construction equipment
  • Knowledge in Colas Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Extensive background in reading and understanding equipment manuals
  • Computer literate

Experience/Education

  • Grade 12 completion with 5 years experience
  • Valid Alberta Drivers License, Class 5 minimum
  • Mandatory training Courses: Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR, fire extinguisher
  • Journeyman Certification

Working Conditions

  • Overtime as required.
  • Perform work/repairs in a shop.
  • Exposure to working on Light and Heavy Equipment and their Components.
  • Perform work in either a shop or outdoor construction settings.
  • Ability to work with other shop personnel.
  • A portion of work may be performed in an indoor setting and may include a combination of standing, sitting, and walking.
  • A portion of work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust, grease, fumes, odors, oil, asphalt, and toxic and flammable substances.
  • Required to perform tasks that involve standing, heavy lifting, bending, crouching, and kneeling for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs regularly.
  • Use of personal protection equipment is required.
  • Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear required when working outdoors.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in areas that are dusty and/or dirty.
  • Must comply with all company policies.
