The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is responsible for regulating Ontario's capital markets according to the mandate in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The OSC aims to protect investors, promote fair and competitive capital markets, foster capital formation, and contribute to financial system stability. This work involves policy, operational, adjudication, and enforcement efforts, as well as contributing to securities regulation at national and global levels.

The Enforcement Division at the OSC ensures fair, vigorous, visible, and timely enforcement. The division investigates and litigates securities law breaches in Ontario, collaborating with other regulators and law enforcement to deter misconduct and protect investors. They are looking for a Senior Investigator with extensive experience in criminal investigations, focusing on preventing harm to investors by prosecuting fraudulent behavior.

What will you do?

As a Senior Investigator, you will identify and investigate misconduct in Ontario's capital markets through traditional and technology-driven approaches, covering the investigation lifecycle from assessment to litigation. The role involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, leading investigations, and utilizing data analytics for evidence.

This position is ideal for a seasoned investigator with expertise in white-collar crime, seeking challenges and aiming to contribute to investor protection.

  • Support investigation case activities, leading examinations and investigations, and identifying strategies to resolve bottlenecks.
  • Prepare case planning, evidence schedules, and reports with a focus on analytical techniques.
  • Work with data scientists to analyze trends and patterns for insights.
  • Coach and mentor junior team members while collaborating with the enforcement team.

What do you need to be successful?

  • Minimum 10 years of investigation experience, preferably in financial investigations or related fields.
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, or related fields.
  • Advanced knowledge of capital markets, securities legislation, and investigative practices.
  • Skills in evidence collection, data analytics, and open-source intelligence.
  • Experience in emerging crypto trends and project management.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
