JOB SUMMARY:


The mandate of City Wide Programs, Aquatics & Specialized Services is to provide strategic vision and innovative leadership in managing customer centric sports, physical activity, aquatics and recreation venues, programs and services for all ages, including the management of facilities and/or land, and for the delivery of indoor and outdoor recreation programs and services.

This Service provides city wide access to adapted, therapeutic and integrated recreation programs, giving children, youth and adults with special needs the opportunity to participate in community recreation.


Under the guidance of a Program Coordinator and Wading Pool Supervisor/Director, you are responsible for the daily operation of the wading pool program within the City's parks.

You follow all guidelines, policies & procedures including all safety guidelines set by the branch.

This includes ensuring the park is well maintained and safe for users, guarding of participants in the wading pool/area, light maintenance, monitoring water quality levels, delivering of age appropriate activities and events, administrative duties, and responding to public inquiries.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Student - Minimum Grade 10 No related experience is required

Some experience working with children (babysitting, after school programs, L.I.T. program, volunteer experience)

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES:

Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates
AODA Accessibility/IASR Training
Current Lifeguard, Lifesaving, Water Safety or Swim Instructor, and/or related aquatics certificates are assets

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Understanding the development and recreational needs of children.
  • AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) Legislated training
  • City of Ottawa Core Training
  • Applicable Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services, aquatic policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

  • Ability to execute park programs for children, youth and persons with disabilities in a park environment
  • Ability to provide safe supervision in a wading pool environment
  • Ability to operate required tools/equipment
