Camp Belwood has provided unforgettable camp experiences for children and youth since 1964 at beautiful Belwood Lake
- home of the Grand River Watershed's Shand Dam.

What you will do


You will be a leader in a vibrant overnight camp supporting the growth and development of children and youth by helping to keep our facilities clean, safe, and in good working condition.

Your work will ensure that we reinforce Public Health regulations, Ontario Camping Association Standards, and YMCA Overnight Camping Quality Recommended Practices to support quality excellence.

You thrive being a part of a larger team but also bring the self-management skills required to work independently with mínimal supervision.

Your attention to detail and pride in delivering excellent quality work will ensure our facility meets our high standards for cleanliness, including all COVID-19 protocols.

You will attend trainings and staff meetings as required. This physically demanding position requires task flexibility, organization, and high levels of energy.

Furthermore, you will:

  • Undertake landscaping duties including cutting grass, weeding, and watering of the garden, maintaining trees, trails, and wood cutting.
  • Perform light construction duties including building repair, landscaping, minor plumbing, and painting.
  • Ensure all general use areas of camp, including the dining room, kitchen, and washrooms are clean and in good working order.
  • Build relationships with campers, parents, Leaders in Training (LITs), your fellow staff team, and subcontracted professionals.
  • Acts as a positive role model for all campers, Leaders in Training (LITs) and fellow staff.

What you will bring
You are committed to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to diverse needs.

You have well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills; the ability to use good judgement and problem-solve; and strong professional conduct.

You have up-to-date Standard First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification, successful completion of Police Vulnerable Sector Check within the last 6 months, and a valid driver's licence.


You have a minimum of 1-year experience in a similar environment and the ability to use various tools and equipment.

You can take direction, work well with mínimal supervision, and function cooperatively as part of a team. You are detail oriented, and a champion of health and safety.

What you will gain


You will receive on the job training and mentorship from a certified Millwright and learn how to safely operate a variety of tools and equipment.

You will be exposed to a wide variety of trade-related tasks to help your hone your skills which will help you determine where you would like to specialize in the future.
