Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the District Principal of Early Learning & Child Care (ELCC) or designate, the Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) works in district early learning programs alongside ECEs.

Knowledge of early childhood education is a requirement of this role.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with implementing age-appropriate activities for preschool, Seamless Day, and before and after school care following daily schedules and program objectives.
  • Builds positive relationships with school staff, community partners, families, and school-aged children.
  • Supports information transfer between children, families, and classroom colleagues (ECE and Kindergarten teacher).
  • Collaborates with ECE and school staff to ensure a smooth transition for children between the child care program and the school day.
  • Maintains a learning environment promoting children's health, security, and well-being with classroom colleagues.
  • Participates in meetings when required.
  • Respects the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Engages in continuous professional development and keeps ECEA Certificate to Practice updated.

Equipment Used:
Computer, photocopier, audio and video equipment, telephone, calculator, and other office and classroom-related equipment

Required Knowledge, Ability, Skills:

  • Grade 12 with completion of a basic early childhood education training program course in child development, child guidance, or child health, safety, and nutrition.
  • Valid Early Childhood Educator Assistant License to Practice from the BC Government's ECE Registry.
  • Up to one (1) year of recent experience working with preschool and/or school-aged children.
  • Knowledge of the BC Early Learning Framework.
  • Experience in implementing early learning programs.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, electronic) and ability to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and children.
  • Effective problem-solving, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to provide care and guidance to children with appropriate temperament and personality.
  • Current Child Care First Aid certificate.
  • Clear criminal record check.
