Financial Analyst
Full time position, 35 hour per week

More than a place to stay, we provide 24/7 crisis shelter and transitional housing on-site and in the community, along with comprehensive services including education, counselling, health care, employment assistance, job training and after-care.

Since 1982, Covenant House has supported more than 100,000 young people.

As a national leader, we educate and advocate for long-term change to improve the lives of vulnerable youth. This includes influencing public policy, leading awareness and prevention programs and continually building and sharing our knowledge. As a learning organization, we strive for excellence and programs with impact.

We provide life-changing care with unconditional love and respect. We meet youth's immediate needs and then we work together to achieve their future goals.


Thanks to our donors, who contribute 80 per cent of our $44.2-million annual operating budget, we are able to deliver these comprehensive programs and services.


Position Summary:

This position will assist the Associate Director, Finance in the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Review Accounts Payable and Visa Entries
  • Review HST filing and make sure HST rebate is calculated correctly
  • Perform various reconciliations and prepare related GL entries
  • Complete periodic reports for external funders and record related entries
  • Internal cycle reviews
  • Assist in month end and year end closing
  • Adhoc reporting as required
  • Assist with projection and budgets
  • Assist payroll as required
  • Assist with Annual Information Return (T3010)
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • CPA accounting designation preferred
  • 5 years of accounting experience (intermediate to senior level), experience in a notforprofit environment, preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of HST legislation and filings
  • Experience in Sage AccPac (GL, AP and Bank Service) is a must
  • Knowledge in Payroll is an asset
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite includes: Excel (advanced), Word (intermediate)
  • Familiarity with Raiser's Edge is an asset
  • Strong analytical skills and orientation to detail is required
  • Is a quick learner and a selfstarter
  • Effective time management skills
  • Ability to work in an environment with competing priorities and demanding deadlines
  • Able to be flexible, and possess excellent customer service skills
  • Effective coaching skills and ability to review others' work with high level of accuracy and completeness
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
