POSITION:
Provincial Dispatcher (Contract)

LOCATION:
Guelph, Ontario

LEVEL:
Individual Contributor

DESCRIPTION:


Schedule and dispatch all vehicles and drivers to meet established shipping appointments; arrange repairs and inspections of trucks; track and monitor fleet metrics; and respond issues as they arise.


  • Please note, this is a 12month contract position with the possibility of an extension._

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and dispatch drivers, equipment and vehicles in accordance with shipping schedules and associated regulations.
  • Determine types or amounts of equipment vehicles and personnel required according to delivery orders for day and prepare run schedules.
  • Arrange for inspections and repairs on trucks as required.
  • Record and maintain files, records of customer requests and other dispatch information.
  • Develop efficiencies in scheduling and route planning in support of distribution business strategy creation and attainment.
  • Track and monitor departmental fleet metrics and report to Distribution Supervisor.
  • Respond to clients regarding shipping issues including rescheduling or rerouting and follow up for resolution.
  • Provide updates regarding distribution requirements/issues to team and other stakeholders.
  • Track fleet fuel and credit card spending for team.
  • Work collaboratively with Warehouse, Operations, Purchasing and Finance departments, as required.
  • Refer questions, problems and requests to the supervisor as required.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a related role; leadership experience considered an asset.
  • Minimum secondary school diploma or equivalent; postsecondary education in a related field considered an asset.
  • Experience in food distribution considered an asset.
  • Experience as a driver considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of distribution area.
  • Decision making and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to use software such as Microsoft Office, including Excel. Experience using a fleet management system considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of provincial transportation legislation and regulations.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Acceptable criminal records check.

Working Conditions:

  • Spends approximately 30% of the time working in warehouse environment and approximately 70% in an office environment.
  • Monday-Friday, 8hour shifts.
  • Required to wear PPE while in manufacturing environment.
