In this role you will provide project leadership in a fast-paced environment in the research, analysis, development and implementation of policies and programs relation to agency governance and oversight, service delivery and infrastructure.

What can I expect to do in this role?: Working within the Metrolinx and Agencies Oversight Branch, you will:

  • Lead a team of policy advisors to deliver on strategic, policy and corporate oversight of transportation agencies
  • Build and maintain key relationships across agencies and the ministry to facilitate delivery of transit and transportation priorities;
  • Advise on provincial transportation and agency governance policies and issues;
  • Lead analysis of new initiatives and transportation issues, assess impacts, develop options, recommend solutions and secure timely approvals;
  • Lead preparation of presentations, briefing material, discussion papers and correspondence on transportation issues; and
  • Develop and implement policies and strategies relating to oversight and relationship management.

How do I qualify?:

Leadership, Strategic Advice and Issues Management:

  • You have leadership skills to effectively lead and coordinate multiple files within the team, while mentoring junior staff and ensuring quality work
  • You can plan, develop and lead an effective oversight framework that would align with relevant legislation and directives, and would incorporate areas of agency strategic, corporate and financial planning and reporting
  • You can provide strategic advice, expertise, and technical support to senior management on a broad range of contentious transit issues and related economic impacts, and develop strategies and recommendations to support decisionmaking
  • You know techniques for managing issues and risks and can use political acuity to ensure effective reescalation and resolution of potentially critical and sensitive issues

Relationship Building and Communication Skills:

  • You can establish and manage effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • You can provide leadership and influence partnership agreements to resolve key stakeholder issues, while ensuring best interests are served
  • You can prepare and present a wide range of complex material, including information notes, briefing decks, reports, policy papers and correspondence
  • You possess tact and diplomacy and can represent the ministry with a wide range of stakeholders

Analytical and Problem Solving Skills:

  • You can plan, develop, execute and communicate policy advice
  • You can identify and assess the social, economic and financial impacts that initiatives have on provincial transit programs
  • You have knowledge of transportation issues and policies
  • You have skills with analytical research and statistical methods
  • You can analyse and interpret legislation, evaluate governance and provide recommendations and/or solutions

Organizational and Project Management Skills:

  • You have experience managing projects and ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • You can plan, organize and execute major projects and initiatives, and research involving multidisciplinary staff
  • You can effectively multitask within a highdemand work environment
