The Organization
Since its inception in 1928, the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) has governed the Métis within Alberta. The MNA is led by a democratically elected Council.

This Council works toward the mandate of the MNA, supporting practices of transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness for Métis Albertans in government policy and decision-making processes.

The MNA promotes and facilitates the advancement of Métis people through self-reliance, self-determination, and self-management.

Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Director of Self-Government and other MNA Departments in fulfilling their mandate and portfolio responsibilities.
  • Conduct regulatory and policybased assessments to identify potential risks, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor and interpret applicable internal and external legislative and regulatory requirements, guidelines, and governance standards to ensure compliance and anticipate future changes.
  • Maintain tracking databases and SharePoint sites.
  • Work with ministries to identify and review legislative proposals.
  • Support the development of materials and analysis necessary to ensure successful engagement.
  • Draft briefing materials, correspondence, and related materials to brief executive leadership and elected officials.
  • Provide strategic input and support for government decisionmaking processes that contribute to strategic outcomes and deliverables.
  • Provide guidance and training to internal teams on regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Provide policy support to the Métis Nation of Alberta and citizens.
  • Participate in departmental planning meetings, audits, and inspections, ensuring effective communication and cooperation.
  • Maintain uptodate knowledge of regulatory changes and actively contribute to the development and implementation of regulatory strategies.
  • Maintain a high level of political awareness, cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and confidentiality in interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Competencies

  • Solid understanding of regulatory requirements and guidelines, such as the Societies Act, Canada Not-ForProfit Corporations Act, and/or others.
  • Familiarity with electronic document management systems and regulatory software is an asset.
  • Proven experience in preparing and submitting regulatory documentation, including registrations, variation reports, and technical dossiers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex regulatory information effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to strict confidentiality of sensitive information. High level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism.
  • Exceptional analytical and problemsolving skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fastpaced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Flexible and adaptable to work in a diverse work environment, with the ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands and tight deadlines.
  • Strong political and cultural awareness, combined with highly developed skills intact and diplomacy.
  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An indepth understanding of the MNA and Métis culture is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Public Administration, Law, Political Science, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum one year of experience in legislative or regulatory affairs in a public government role.
  • Experience working with an Indigenous organization is an asset.
  • Regulatory Affairs Certification (RAC) would be considered an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Position will be based at the Métis Nation of Alberta Provincial Head Office.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Ability to travel throughout the province of Alberta on occasion. Additional outofprovince travel will also occur, with notice.
  • Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 drivers' license.
