Job Purpose


Reporting to the Program and Policy Manager and working closely with all Program and Service Coordinators, the Restorative Justice and Community Wellness (RJCW) Coordinator serves as a counsellor and guide to the Indigenous members of the PAQ community.


The RJCW Coordinator has two core responsibilities:

Community Wellness:
The person in this role uses a culturally adapted approach that encompasses Indigenous traditions, culture, and world view. The coordinator plans, organises, and animates culturally relevant discussions, ceremonies, activities, sharing circles, workshops, and events. These activities are essential in helping nourish the bodies, spirits, and minds of participants and residents.

The RJCW Coordinator promotes a healthy lifestyle and provides counselling and referrals on issues of importance to PAQ community members.

Finally, this position has a mandate to develop an ongoing dialogue with PAQ Indigenous community members in the planning and evaluation of PAQ program, services, and community life, and making recommendations for improvement.


Restorative Justice:

The RJCW Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing a system of restorative justice at all PAQ sites that helps to repair the harm caused when PAQ's policies and protocols are violated by community members, including incidents of racism, sexism, and other forms of psychological harassment.


This system of restorative justice must:

  • Address victims' needs (whether the victim is an individual, or the larger PAQ community)
  • Hold offending community members meaningfully accountable for their actions
  • Enhance a mindset that supports physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing of community members by having a more preventative and less punitive barring policy, one that is built on supporting community members in their reintegration within PAQ.
  • Engage the PAQ community in the justice process

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish a bond of trust with participants and community members through active listening and positive interactions
  • Support the Site Coordinators to implement, support, and monitor an internal system of restorative justice at all PAQ sites to ensure a fair and effective response to violations of PAQ's policies and protocols.
  • Develop tools and facilitate processes to address issues of racism, sexism and other forms of psychological harassment within the PAQ community.
  • Provide mediation support in cases of conflict between participants, residents, and staff.
  • Support front line staff and caseworkers to manage incidents of intercommunity and intimate partner violence, including victim services.
  • Working with PAQ's Activities' Coordinator and the community elder and spiritual guide:
  • Organize and facilitate meaningful community-wide events focused on wellness, such as community BBQs, outings, retreats, workshops, sharing circles, etc. with the goal of supporting PAQ community members on their healing journeys.
  • Organize and facilitate one evening communitywide event monthly in the PAQ community room focused on healing and wellness for community members.
  • Organize and facilitate PAQ's annual community wellness retreat at Camp Kanawana
  • Organize and facilitate quarterly 'community consultations' to receive feedback from community members on PAQ programs and services; track recommendations and bring them to management when necessary.
  • Support community members to engage actively in community life and democratic processes at PAQ, including participation at the AGM
  • Build and maintain knowledge and networks of other partner services, programs, and resources to support community member referrals, and followup.
  • Represent PAQ on relevant external committees
  • Update and manage statistics and produced monthly activity reports.

Other:

  • Infuses a spirit of excellence and innovation within PAQ culture and working environment.
  • Promotes PAQ's values at work and externally
  • Other duties, as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 2 years experience working in a similar counsellor/social work role or other related fields, preferably within the Indigenous community or social services sector
