As the central communications agency for the government, Communications Nova Scotia (CNS) helps Nova Scotians understand the government's actions and reasoning. About The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Image Services, as the Visual Library Technician Intern, you will assist in managing CNS' visual library, an online database of government photos. In this role, tasks include maintaining the visual library by editing, tagging, and uploading images, deciding on image additions/deletions, ensuring compliance with copyright and privacy laws, as well as government regulations and industry standards. Additionally, you will research and test online gallery tools to enhance the visual library platform and oversee the government's central photo library.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Establish and enforce metadata and captioning standards
  • Develop guidelines and conditions for a vetted, representative image database for CNS staff
  • Lead the transition to an agency-based digital asset management approach for CNS
  • Transfer older images and metadata to an assigned archive
  • Organize and digitize all historical consent forms
  • Utilize tools like Microsoft Forms to create a digital consent form

The Visual Library Technician Intern will act as the key contact for staff and vendor photographers in managing new government images.

About You

A recent graduate from a post-secondary institution in Library Sciences or a related field, you should possess experience with digital databases and asset management, attention to detail, ability to handle multiple tasks, strong organizational skills, independent work capability, client-oriented mindset, excellent communication skills, confidentiality maintenance, and problem-solving skills.

Additional Skills
  • Proficiency in digital asset software
  • Knowledge or experience with Microsoft Office suite
