The Opportunity

  • We are currently seeking a Senior Specialist, Risk to serve as the subject matter expert and technical authority for our Base Metals business on matters pertaining to risk.
  • The Senior Specialist is the entity level technical authority for risk-based decision making for the Base Metals business and will define the strategic objectives, priorities, and implementation strategy for the operating assets.

As a Senior Specialist- Risk, you will define, design, and deploy priority projects directly associated with the achievement of the business strategy spanning across product groups, countries, operating and functional departments that are associated with significant investment on the part of the business.

This individual will lead the application of complex risk assessment techniques/methodologies associated with high consequence business decisions.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Define, design, and deliver the risk management strategy and associated objectives, initiatives, and outcomes for the Base Metals portfolio of operating assets, functional departments, and capital projects across all categories of risk (strategic, finance, operational, compliance, etc.)
  • Achieve the organization's strategic objectives through the application of the risk management system, its associated processes and tools, in accordance with Vale's management model (VPS)
  • Design and implement assurance processes and their associated consistent with the Integrated Assurance Framework.
  • Uphold governance requirements described in the organization's risk management policy and standards pertaining to risks.
  • Guide the development of risk management practices consistent with best practices.
  • Provide guidance and insight to key decisions impacting the business. Lead the application of complex risk assessment techniques/methodologies and directly support senior leadership in risk-based decision making.
  • Lead and develop risk leaders within operating units and functional departments and directly support Base Metals leadership in performance management.

About You

Education:

  • PEng
  • Complementary advanced degrees (Master's, Ph.D.) preferred.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in management system design and implementation.
  • Experience managing a global portfolio of assets.
  • Experience in high-hazard operating environment.
  • Deep understanding of organizational behavior
