Interactive 3D Generalist, Bio-medical Engineering

The Department of Bio-Medical Engineering invites applications for a Interactive 3D Generalist. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to the Principle Investigator, the incumbent will develop programmable anatomy and physiology scenarios for select BME courses. This will include animated, rigged characters, with possible addition of MetaHuman characters to capture a range of body types as well as appropriate representations of different ethnic populations.The ideal candidate will possess a unique combination of technical skills in interactivity, 3D modelling, and animation, an understanding of human anatomy, and a passion for creating educational content that bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Expand and customise existing high-fidelity 3D models of male and female anatomy, ensuring accuracy and suitability for teaching & learning.
- Rig and animate characters to simulate physiological processes and biomedical engineering scenarios.
- Integrate MetaHuman characters to represent a diverse range of body types and ethnic populations.
- Utilise UE5, Blueprints, and C++ programs to create interactive scenarios that students and educators can manipulate for enhanced learning experiences, including multi-player scenarios and integration with spatial computing applications.
- Collaborate with BME educators to identify educational objectives and translate them into engaging 3D content.
- Stay abreast of the latest trends and advancements in interactive development, 3D modelling technology, and educational software development.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Proven experience in 3D modelling, rigging, and animation, preferably within the Unreal Engine (or Unity) environment.
- Strong portfolio in 3D modelling, showcasing detailed (anatomical) models and dynamic animations.
- Knowledge and experience in using a physically based rendering (PBR) workflow and texturing pipeline.
- Proficiency in UE5 and Blueprints, with the ability to develop complex interactive scenarios.
- Ideally, knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, with a keen eye for accurate representation.
- Experience with MetaHuman characters or similar technologies to capture and replicate diverse human features.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work closely with a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge and experience with Epic Online Services (EOS) is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Game Development, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or related field is preferred.
