ABOUT THE ROLE
The Regional District of Nanaimo is seeking several temporary part-time term instructors to fulfill the role of Recreation Program Leaders.
We are hiring for two (2) different areas:
The Recreation Program Leaders serve on a recreation team responsible for the delivery of quality program experiences to children, youth and families throughout the Regional District of Nanaimo. Under the direction of the Recreation Coordination team, the Leaders will assist with planning and implementing quality recreation programs with duties include maintaining registration; planning, organizing, and leading program activities; direct supervision, leadership, and safety monitoring of registered participants; integration of children with diverse abilities; providing excellent customer service; interacting with parents; maintaining program supplies, equipment, and facilities; and other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
General qualifications include leadership (paid and/or volunteer) experience working directly with children in recreation and/or childcare settings or other related experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, general knowledge of recreation programs, and guiding children’s behaviour are essential. Incumbents must possess and maintain a current first aid (Emergency First Aid, or Standard First Aid, or Emergency Childcare First Aid) and CPR B or C and completed Grade 12.
Other applicable certifications such as a Class 4 Driver’s License, High Five, NCCP, Canucks Autism Network, Physical Literacy 101, National Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor, Child and Youth Care, training in nature interpretation and education, and outdoor skill development are considered assets.
POSITION DETAILS
Program locations include various community buildings in the area you are hired for. The wage will be $23.25 per hour. These positions are dependent upon program registration and work hours vary based on need; however, general hours will be as follows:
