To help achieve our business plans, Bruce Power currently has a temporary opportunity available for a First Line Manager, Maintenance within our Equipment Performance Division.
This is a temporary position for the period of up to 24 months supporting the MCR Execution- Life Extension section and is located on site, in Tiverton, Ontario.
The First Line Manager, Construction is accountable for various phases of modifications and rehabilitation work associated with a nuclear generation facility and will manage a multi- disciplined work force involved in the execution of assigned scopes of work through subordinate supervisors. This position will involve detailed planning, scheduling, estimating, organizing and control of staff, contractors, vendors and resources, for planned and forced outage circumstances, to meet scheduled completion dates and maintain control of costs.
The FLM will ensure that work is performed safely, achieving quality standards and within guidelines of the corporate direction and government regulations, and will be accountable for all aspects of safety and procedural oversight.
On a shift or day basis, this role leads a team of maintenance personnel, contract staff and/or project/material management with oversight to correct work habits of personnel. You are responsible for the safe, effective execution of the work in accordance with approved procedures by acting as coach, facilitator, and supervisor, creating and sustaining a cooperative and supportive team environment. Core work includes developing recommendations for improvement in Maintenance plans and procedures, tools and techniques. While observing the maintenance function to ensure adherence to safety practices and work methods, provide effective support to the Manager in the planning, organization, administration, scheduling and execution of short and long term maintenance programs/unit outages.
You will provide support and assistance to the Manager by making recommendations and developing Maintenance training, strategies, processes, and plans Core work includes developing recommendations for improvement in Maintenance plans and procedures, tools and techniques. While observing the maintenance function to ensure adherence to safety practices and work methods, provide effective support to the Manager in the planning, organization, administration, scheduling and execution of short and long term maintenance programs/unit outages. You will provide support and assistance to the Manager by making recommendations and developing Maintenance training, strategies, processes, and plans.
Key Responsibilities:

Skills & Knowledge:
Knowledge of the standards and practices for MCR Execution- Life Extension section.
Leadership, management and observational skills
Requires knowledge of control, mechanical or civil technology sufficient to understand the assembly, function, operations and mechanics of applicable equipment, systems, and materials
Requires on-the-job experience, such as might be gained in a power plant, refinery or chemical plant, associated with the installation, operation and maintenance of same to become thoroughly familiar with assembly processes, testing and trouble-shooting procedures and maintenance, modification and repair techniques
Requires familiarity with the use of manufacturers' equipment manuals and specifications to understand the operating characteristics of equipment and systems
Requires maintenance experience to efficiently handle unplanned trouble-shooting activities through effective utilization of existing resources
Requires sound practical experience to understand, coach and influence mixed services personnel through the phases of planning, organizing, scheduling and execution of maintenance work, and to motivate same to integrate their efforts and attain optimal work performance
Education and Experience
This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of Grade XII plus 2 years' further concentrated study (including trade certification) in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil or by having the equivalent level of education
A period of over 6 years is considered necessary to gain this experience
