Purpose

Provide technical support to the surface operations (including Hollinger and Pamour Open Pits) by leading the production geology team in managing the gathering, interpretation and compilation of all geological information for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the open pit mines.

Safety and Sustainability Expectations

Become familiar with all aspects of the Fatality Risk Management and perform inspections, job and task observations to ensure compliance to Fatality Risk Management safety standards.
Be proactive with respect to safety. Report and correct hazards as they are identified. Accountable for own health and safety performance as well as wellbeing of those in the workplace. Conform to the critical control verification process on site. Follow operating procedures, design checklists, Occupational Health and Safety Act; company policies and comply with all regulatory requirements. Actively participate in team safe meetings/discussions providing input based on observations and experience so that designs include mitigation measures/controls for all foreseeable hazards.

Essential Duties

Supervise daily grade control activities of production geologists, including ensuring that grade control is issued following Newmont standards and in a timely manner to support production. Seek continual improvement of existing processes particularly with respect to grade control, ore accounting and resource estimation. Validate forecast grades for both reporting and planning purposes. Accountable for the month end reporting and geological reconciliation for the surface mining operations. Contribute to the daily SIC and weekly planning meetings by conveying tonnes and grade for available material (in-pit and stockpiles) so that the best value business decisions can be made. Supervise, train and mentor team members to develop their skills and knowledge. Work closely with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance to develop comprehensive medium- and short-term plans (mining and reserve replacement) Develop and manage the Pamour Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling program to improve geological confidence in resource model. Development & maintain departmental budget for drilling and blasthole sampling and assaying. Oversee the development and implementation of geological management and ore control systems and update these, as required Track and monitor mine production, including stockpile movements, against production targets Monitor ore extraction in the workplace and use reconciliation and polygon compliance to improve quality of ore delivered to the mill

Training & Experience

Completion of a post-secondary education program in geology. Registration (or eligibility) as a Professional Geoscientist is considered an asset. Minimum 8 years' of geology experience of which 5 years is within mining. Ability to organize workloads and modify priorities in a dynamic fast-paced continuous production environment. Has shown responsibility for reviewing completed work, providing direction, assigning and managing tasks, managing progress, assessing performance, and providing opportunities for training and development. Strong computer skills in Vulcan, Deswik and excel based programs is required. Good interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to work with others.

Working Conditions

This is a site based position at our Timmins operation.
The work schedule is 4 days on 3 days off.
