DESCRIPTION:  Reporting to the  Supervisor Field Technical Services, the Field Metering and Equipment Technologist will perform installation, operation and maintenance of complex revenue meter equipment and systems.  This position is also responsible for commissioning, acceptance testing and making repairs to distribution equipment utilized in FortisAlberta overhead and underground distribution systems.  

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
    Install, maintain, analyze, repair, functional test and commission complex metering installations, automated metering infrastructure equipment, power line protection equipment, automatic transfer equipment, voltage regulators, shunt and series capacitor installations, wireless cellular and radio frequency communication equipment, distribution automation system and emergency mobile generators.
    Perform audits on any site as required; this includes energy theft and grow operations.
    Maintain deployment setup and operation of portable emergency generator during distribution system repairs and emergencies.
    Develop, document and implement field metering policies, procedures, best practices and new standards.
    Provide apparatus and revenue metering training to new hire's, Power Line Technicians and Distribution Projects staff as required. 
    Provide technical support to Field Operations; this includes trouble shooting different controls for Electronic Recloser, Molded Vacuum Interrupter (MVI), Voltage Regulator, Capacitor Banks, Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Distribution Automation.
    Provide technical input and support for FortisAlberta Inc. Service and Metering Guide. 
    Lead and/or assist with power quality investigations.
    Influence change and develop strategies in the management and delivery of non-standard or unique project requests.
    Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders; this includes seeking input/feedback from stakeholders in order to manage and meet their expectations and needs, maintaining various records and producing reports as required. 
    Special projects and other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
    In depth knowledge of distribution line operation and construction (i.e. MO's, MVI's, AMI, Series Cap banks, Shunt Cap bank, etc.)
    Advanced knowledge of computer systems and software programs with proven ability to predict, interpret, evaluate consequences and validate results.
    Thorough understanding of applicable standards, codes and regulations.
    Proven ability to both lead and work within a team environment; this includes leading by example in promoting and applying safe work practices. 
    Proven ability to take initiative, analyze and solve problems with a positive attitude. This involves working proactively with little direction to resolve issues and evaluate possible solutions. 
    Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal customers and team members; this includes good communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. 
    Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a team or independently as an individual contributor. 
    Good organizational and time management skills, able to manage numerous projects and competing demands. 
    High degree of accuracy, attention to detail and commitment to quality in all work performed.

 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    A Journeyman Power Systems Electrician, Journeyman Power Line Technician certificate,  Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma, or a credential in other related discipline, plus a minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience is required. 
    A valid Class 5 drivers permit is required.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Experience as a Field Metering and Equipment Technologist would be considered an asset
    FortisAlberta Radial or System Switching certification would be considered an asset.
    Additional trade certifications, technical diplomas, or degrees in a related discipline would be considered an asset.
