Job Summary


Reporting to the Manager of Children and Youth Services, the Community Programmer: Youth Leadership will assist in developing programming and co-facilitates the Youth Leadership Program; providing field placement guidance and support, and to assist in the development of youth led community initiatives within a community development framework.

Job Specific Responsibilities


  • Assists in planning and implements activities that enhance positive leadership qualities, preparing youth 13-18 yrs. to become volunteers.
  • Creates opportunities for youth to reflect on their well-being and potential.
  • Liaisons with SWCHC staff and other community partners if needed.
  • Assists in conducting recruitment, registration, maintain files and daily attendance.
  • Assists in monitoring and maintaining adequate supplies and equipment for programming.
  • Ensures all programming meets Health and Safety Standards

Qualifications


  • Criminal Reference check for working with vulnerable populations.
  • Current CPR , First Aid
  • Strong knowledge of youth development
  • Effective at communicating and problem solving.
  • Experience and flexibility working in diverse community-based programs with families facing multiple health risks and barriers.
  • Experience and proven success working with youth 13-18yrs.
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Proof of 2 COVID-19 vaccinations

This is a Canada Summer Jobs position and the individual hired must be:

(a) between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.

(b) a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act [S.C. 2001, c. 27]*; and

(c) legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
