Victoria, Canada British Columbia Construction Association Full time
Salary: $38,668.70 / year

Do you have a passion for providing career or skills advice? Are you collaborative, people oriented and construction industry experienced? Then this role could be for you

BCCA-Integrating Newcomers (BCCA-IN) is looking for an organised, people-focused skills assessor to help newcomers approved to immigrate to Canada, successfully transition their skills, education, and experience to the construction industry.

Perhaps you have a HR, recruitment, or job developer background. Or maybe you've worked on the operations, trades, engineering, or project management side of construction-related businesses. Either way, you feel your practical industry knowledge, employer insights and understanding of the broad range of construction professions, can be leveraged to ensure skilled immigrants find the jobs they deserve.

About us

Our program is funded by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada. The pre-arrival, pan-Canadian service helps high-skilled newcomers build successful construction careers in any city, province, or territory. We support professionals from all disciplines to explore and establish careers in the industry including skilled tradespeople, licensed technical specialists and professionals. Learn more www.bccassn.com/IN.

About the role

As an assessor you will be:

  • Delivering skills, education and licensing advice via short ‘assessment reports' to the employment liaison specialists of the Integrating Newcomers team. The reports will help Employment Liaison Specialists target their advice to program participants (our ‘clients') on how to successfully transition their career in Canada.
  • Co-presenting with the BCCA-IN program manager at national and international webinars to raise awareness of our Canada-wide, pre-arrival, employment support services.
  • Researching and collating construction labour market, profession, and licensing trends to help inform the employment advice delivered by the BCCA-IN team.
  • Co-developing labour and industry insights to share as content on the BCCA-IN web and social media channels (basic knowledge of video blogging and writing will be an advantage to you but are not mandatory).
  • Supporting the employment liaison specialist team, as required.

You will be joining a team with multi-industry and immigration experience who have built successful careers in Canada and are committed to providing practical advice to make the process easier for incoming professionals.

As an assessor, you will have/bring:

  • Labour Market Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the Canadian labor market trends, including demand for specific skills, emerging industries, and job market dynamics. Direct experience working with the NOC code is valuable.

Knowledge of the process for evaluating foreign educational credentials and determining their equivalency to Canadian standards.
  • Occupational Research, Licensing, and Certification: Familiarity with the requirements and procedures for obtaining professional licenses or certifications in regulated occupations in Canada. Capability to research and evaluate different occupations, including their requirements, duties, and salary ranges. (Federally and provincially)
  • Cultural Competency: Awareness of cultural differences and sensitivity to the challenges faced by new immigrants in adapting to Canadian workplace culture and practices.
  • Data Analysis: Ability to analyze labor market data, including employment statistics, job vacancies, and industry reports, to identify skill gaps and trends.

Experience

  • Exposure and / or direct experience in construction-related or technical industries either on the tools, operations, education, or business side.
  • Experience in HR, recruitment, workplace education, Canadian immigration processes or employment counselling. Or direct experience in hiring, training, and performance managing a construction-related team.
  • Awareness of the key construction-related professions incl. engineers, architects, technicians/technologists, project managers, estimators, red seal occupations, skilled trades, health and safety, and strategic business specialties.

  • Be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with varying workloads
  • Have high attention to detail and excellent communications skills
