About the role

Working in direct support of the NFS(A)/(P) OROCOs, provide full time support to ORO level coursing to include:

  • Course scheduling support and design in direct support of ORO coursing, and in coordination of other coursing to support synchronized operational training;
  • Coordination and implementation of course schedules and materials including the booking of assets, guest lecturers, training support, and tours;
  • Advise on course execution, design and develop training materials / courseware, and plans;
  • Training Delivery Support to assist, brief, execute, debrief, and report on training events including tracking of grades/progress, grading written ECs/PCs (IAW assessment guides), and preparing joining letters, course packets, and drafting course reports;
  • Instructional support – limited to generic / theoretical / background warfare knowledge; and detailed CMS operations; and
  • Student mentorship – limited to supplementary instruction and trainer support on a non-interference basis with other duties. This may include direct student mentorship, and filling trainer support roles as qualified; as well as, although not acting as an assessor, from time to time providing a second look at a specific students’ performance in order to inform the military assessors. Mentorship and in cubicle support is limited to instructional and developmental phases of training only, and Lockheed Martin personnel will not directly support the assessment of students.
  • Working in direct support of NFS(P), providing staff support and subject matter expertise (SME) advice on ORO course training development activities, including QSP and MLP management;
  • Working in direct support of NTTTS, support of NFS(A), and NFS(P), providing support in executing training scenarios within assigned trainers, primarily in the OTC or Game Controller roles, to include support activities such as:
  • Controlling the flow of game play;
  • Supervising and managing the participation and performance of Control Room staff (ICW DND supervisor for DND pers);
  • Coordinating training requirements (ICW Game Controller) with RCN instructors before and during scenarios; and
  • Facilitating mentorship and performance feedback to RCN instructors, including feedback on command level/net discussions/communications that instructors may not have access to; and
  • Supporting training in the role of other Warfare Commander positions as required
  • Support the RCN by providing instructors with lesson plan/courseware integration support and scenario development;
  • Support the RCN and Lockheed Martin teams with the provision of ORO and CTG level warfare expertise in the development of realistic scenarios to support multi-faceted warfare training;
  • Provide classroom and Trainer mentoring support;
  • Act as Lockheed Martin lead for ORO training support, including remaining current on RCN, NATO, and Allied warfare, tactics, and doctrine updates through research and consistent liaison with RCN tactical authorities;
  • Recommend operational insertions that will make the SEACOT/SEAWOLF classrooms more effective for their intended purpose, including recommending changes to CMS operational and support software. This includes providing advice and staff support to NFS(P) on prioritizing CMS software and systems changes
  • Liaise with Lockheed Martin Canada’s on-site Configuration Management (CM) and Data Management (DM) as required;
  • Conduct tours and provide demonstrations of the SEACOT/SEAWOLF as tasked by DND;
  • Identify (with the aid of instructors) and report discrepancies between application contents and operational systems functionality;
  • Support a flexible work schedule, including travel, overtime, shiftwork, with the understanding that this is an onsite position; and
  • Work with minimum supervision and follow common company processes.

What you bring to the role

As a member of our team, the successful candidate contributes to our key projects as follows:

  • Work independently within DND and NFS (A)/NFS (P) by providing operational support for the ORO Course Officer, Fleet Schools, NTTTS, in supporting broad based contractor support to the Naval Training System, primarily through the use of the Synthetic Environment Advanced Combat Operator Trainer (SEACOT) and the Synthetic Environment Advanced Warfare Operations and Leadership Facility (SEAWOLF) training simulators, and follow on trainers and projects.
  • Support instructors by determining how to incorporate SEACOT/SEAWOLF into lesson plans/courseware and how to conduct operational scenarios to support training. This includes conducting training scenarios in command roles of mission-based scenarios. As a Technical Trainer, you will liaise between DND and LM Canada staff to report defects and areas for enhancement. The LM Canada staff with which you will liaise consists of Halifax-based software developers and support services.
  • Support instructors by providing consistent year to year scheduling, liaison and administrative support.
  • Add value to the Lockheed Martin new business capture and product improvement by providing CMS 330, trainer and related naval domain subject matter expertise to naval programs and product improvement initiatives.

Additional skills desired for the role

  • Degree, or Diploma from a recognized school or military/civilian technical training with 8-12 years of professional military experience;
  • RCN ORO qualified and experienced, or equivalent qualification;
  • Recent experience and demonstrated capacity to perform in the roles of conducting and coordinating Ops Room procedures, and performing any of the Warfare Commander roles (eg. ORO qualification);
  • Recent experience with operational planning and scheduling is necessary;
  • Recent experience with Voice Comms and Naval tactics is necessary;
  • Recent experience or demonstrated capacity to lead teams of SMEs in complex problem solving, planning, scenario / training development activities;
  • Capable of holding a NATO SECRET security clearance, ITAR and CG certifications;
  • Knowledge of CMS 330 and associated trainers;
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office;
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.;
  • Recent experience or demonstrated capacity to instruct in a classroom environment is an asset;
  • Training and experience with complex course scheduling, authoring training materials, and applying these in the trainers is an asset; and
  • Second language abilities (FR, SP, PO, GK) are an asset.
