What is the opportunity?

As a Product Owner - Insurance Data, you will be responsible for defining and prioritizing the backlog of stories associated with data initiatives across RBC Insurance. You will also be responsible for ensuring the team is aligned with the Digital, Data & Technology data squad vision, strategy, and requirements for which they are accountable. You will be dedicated to and work closely with the data squad teams and be accountable for building the right data product to drive better business outcomes.  The ideal candidate will be able to not only understand existing RBC Insurance Infrastructure, but also be able to advocate for target state systems and architecture in alignment with strategic goals across our organization. 

What will you do?

  • Lead the Agile initiatives that are sponsored by the Insurance Data, Analytics and Insights team.
  • Act as the representative of stakeholders to manage product backlogs and review sprints outcomes to ensure the business success of scrum software development projects. Apply extensive, in-depth knowledge, skills, and practices to perform complex assignments.
  • Discuss and determine product backlogs for each sprint, and reviewing the outputs of all sprints, to make sure they are in alignment with the product requirements.
  • Define and convey the vision of what is to be built for the scrum team, to address client requirements and ensure successful product for business objectives.
  • Work closely with the scrum master and development team, to ensure the right things to be focused on and completed during the development process.
  • Follow principles to write, discuss and add user stories to product backlogs; prioritizing product backlogs by business values during the sprint planning meeting.

What will you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • Exceedingly good communication skills and ability to initiate decisions and discussions without much guidance.
  • Resourceful problem solving to help deliver critical initiatives for our business and clients.
  • Prior experience working in an Agile Operating Model (AOM) would be an asset or demonstrated leadership in innovation.
  • Data governance/practitioner experience
  • Thought leadership.
  • Creative mindset
  • Strong team player, who can roll up their sleeves when required, and is able to lead, impact and influence.

Nice to Have

  • Perpetual learner trying to continually improve your understanding of business, technology, and user experience.
  • Work in an Agile environment and continuously review the business needs, define priorities, outline milestones and deliverables, and identify opportunities and risks.
  • Prior project management would be an asset.
  • Prior change management experience leading change would be an asset.
  • Prior product management would be an asset.
