ABOUT THE JOB

As a Janitor, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of our buildings and residences, ensuring a positive experience for everyone who uses our facilities.
What a Day Looks Like
Your days will be dynamic and a combination of routine and varied tasks, reflecting the needs of the facilities. Here's a glimpse of what your day could entail:
• Clean and Sanitize: Travel to various agency buildings to clean and disinfect areas including walls, windows, ceilings, floors, carpets, kitchens, and washrooms using manual and power cleaning equipment.
• Waste Management: Collect and dispose of refuse, ensuring clean refuse areas and performing spot clean-ups.
• Exterior Maintenance: General upkeep of building exteriors such as sweeping, window washing, snow shoveling, etc.
• Rental Housing Upkeep: Clean and prepare rental housing units for move-ins and move-outs.
• Event Support: Set up furniture for functions and meetings. Ensure cleanliness post-events.
• Safety and Security: Secure buildings by arming alarms and locking doors and windows, and report any non-routine maintenance needs.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
• Grade 10 or higher education
• A minimum of (1) one month of related experience
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, and ABILITIES
• Attention to Detail: Ensure all areas are thoroughly cleaned and maintained.
• Time Management: Efficiently manage time to complete tasks across multiple locations.
• Problem-Solving: Address minor maintenance issues promptly and effectively.
• Communication: Effectively communicate and collaborate with team members, supervisors, colleagues, and the serviced community members.
• Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety practices and procedures for working alone, handling cleaning chemicals and equipment, and basic first aid.
• Self-Motivation: Work independently with minimal supervision, taking initiative to complete tasks and ask for help when needed.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
• Protecting Private Information: Handle access to private locations and sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion.

REQUIREMENTS
• A valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence and Safe Driving Record
• Access to a vehicle is an asset
• Consent to Criminal Record Check. (Reimbursement with a receipt upon hire)
• This position requires Union membership and 1.85% union dues are deducted from each pay.
• Flexible availability to work weekends as needed
• Following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: WHMIS, Mandt (1 day), Privacy and Information Sharing, Anti-Bullying, and Harassment.
• Physical requirements of the job include traveling within the city either as the driver or the passenger of a vehicle, walking and standing for the majority of the day, ability to lift, up to 60 lbs., pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, and crawling.
