Ground Control EIT

Position Description:

The Ground Control EIT role will be on a 14/14 rotation. The successful candidate will assume responsibility for all short-term geotechnical issues (determined by the 3-month schedule), including planning and implementation of solutions. Although the Ground Control EIT will report to the Senior Ground Control Engineer, work responsibility is defined by the approximate mining areas of the planning departments; therefore, a close working relationship must also be maintained with the Senior Planning Engineer of the relevant mining area.

Unless otherwise directed by the Senior Ground Control Engineer (SGC), short-term ground control planning will be driven by the 3-month production and development schedules. The Ground Control EIT will be expected to adjust the ground control planning schedule in accordance with the short-term mining plan within their specific area and generally be aware of and contribute to the overall mine targets.

The Ground Control EIT will provide all ground-support plans & geotechnical information to the planners and the operating groups in an accurate and timely manner to assist the mine in meeting or exceeding its targets.

The Ground Control EIT is expected to complete frequent underground inspections, to keep updated with the ground control requirements of various areas, to respond to ground occurrence reports or requests for geotechnical inspections and to conduct quality control assessments of ground support installation. In addition, effective working relationships must be developed with all operating groups to ensure communication of ground control information is maintained at the highest level.

Responsibilities:
Promote safe working practices and complete FLRA, 5-point safety cards & non-routine hazardous tasks regularly (5-pt safety card and FLRA to be completed on every underground trip and submitted). Review 3 month production and development plans and disseminate these schedules into a self-managed work plan over the same period. Review the seismic system daily and review seismic activity. Maintain the seismic database (removing erroneous readings, etc). Alert all operating groups if/when necessary and update a written log of seismic activity. Discuss ground control concerns with planners within their specific mining area and if possible, devise a solution and/or raise an alert to higher levels, as necessary. Discuss changes in short-term mining sequences as early as possible to allow an effective evaluation of the sequence change. Determine from the mining schedule where instrumentation is needed on any given mining level and ensure that instrumentation stock is maintained and managed accordingly. Construct and issue all necessary drilling and installation instructions, read and maintain instruments - repair if necessary. Undertake sufficient underground tours, either alone or with relevant persons from other departments as necessary, in order to carry out geotechnical evaluations of active mine areas and travel ways. Respond to Ground Occurrence Reports by liaising with the person submitting the report (and/or their supervisor), viewing the area, deciding on a plan of action and issuing a formal written response. Maintain accurate and written records of trips underground. Ensure sufficient time within the working week to issue timely, high-quality instructions and prints in order to communicate necessary work to operating groups. Construct and issue layout drawings for rehab, cable bolt installation, drill holes, etc. Review and critically assess pastefill letters and berm construction information. Conduct QAQC audits of installed support and operator installation methods, level conditions, grout samples, pull tests, etc as required. Maintain working databases of all job aspects (rehab and ground support plan issues, geotechnical inspections, paste information, QAQC, instrumentation, etc). Submit information at the end of each monthly for inclusion in the Ground Control summary report.
